Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

I don't like using Chrome anymore, but any link I open goes to Chrome. Way more importantly, any YouTube video opens to the YouTube app, which is a huge problem imo. I end up not viewing 90% of the videos posted on lemmy, because I don't want my YouTube feed to be screwed up.

Even innocuous content is a problem for me. Like, I may be interested in seeing a satisfying wood working video one time, but I don't want my feed thrown off.

As it stands, I pretty much only watch videos on this platform if there's a piped link accompanying them. My 3rd party app for reddit had the option of an internal browser, which I always used.

I love Jerboa, think it has the best UI, and recommend it all over lemmy. But I feel like it's lacking important features, without an internal video player, and less importantly an intenral browser for non-video links.

Even the implementation of a setting that would allow me to open links to Firefox instead of Chrome or YouTube would solve my problem.

Anyway, just a thought.

Edit: So I'm dumb and changing default settings in my phone solved that problem. I would still like to see an internal browser and video player tho.

An internal browser is a good idea, but in the interim, this problem can be solved by changing your default browser/app settings. You should be able to make it so that any link automatically opens in Firefox, or make it so that clicking on YouTube links prompts you to select which app you'd like to open the link with. Not sure what type of device you're working with, but on Android you can change these settings by going to Settings > Apps > (insert app name here) and looking under the "Defaults" header.

Wow, I'm an idiot and didn't realize I could do that.. Thank you.

Mine open in Firefox, as that's set as my default browser. It's a system setting.

Recently jerboa has even started opening links in private browsing tabs.

YouTube links can similarly be set to open in NewPipe

As a stopgap you can use UntrackMe from F-droid . You can set it to use Invidious, or just launch in your preferred app, Newpipe, Firefox etc.

It also redirects to Nitter, though I don't know how well that works anymore.

Seconded.

Please let us choose what app we want to send certain links to. Specially YouTube and browser links.

Right now my procedure is to open the post, click to share link and choose the app, eg for YT links I use NewPipe.

There were a few users who solved the problem. You can change the default settings in the app section of your phone's settings. Change Firefox to default and unselect the default option to open links in YouTube's settings.

For me at least (on android) it uses the default app and link handlers configured in the app settings.

Unless Google has removed the ability to do that (which wouldn't surprise me), tweaking those settings should work.

People already have some good suggestions here, but I wanted to mention that linksheet on f-droid may be helpful to some of the folks here. You set it as your default browser and it let's you choose where you want links to open with more flexibility and options than you usually get

Not exactly Jerboa fix but for that behaviour I use Open link with. Set it as your default browser and you can set it to use NewPipe for every youtube link, etc
