This community is the "official" Privacy Guides community on Lemmy, which can be verified here. Other "Privacy Guides" communities on other Lemmy servers are not moderated by this team or associated with the website.


Moderation Rules:

  2. This is not the place for self-promotion if you are not listed on privacyguides.org. If you want to be listed, make a suggestion on our forum first.

  10. No misinformation: Extraordinary claims must be matched with evidence.
  11. Do not post about VPNs or cryptocurrencies which are not listed on privacyguides.org. See Rule 2 for info on adding new recommendations to the website.
  12. General guides or software lists are not permitted. Original sources and research about specific topics are allowed as long as they are high quality and factual. We are not providing a platform for poorly-vetted, out-of-date or conflicting recommendations.

Its free and can be used on android,also proton vpn is too slow for me,this one is much faster

Riseup is run by activists entirely on donations, so I don't think that 'you are the product' really applies. Be a bit cautious anyway though, because they have given info to the FBI before. Of course Proton has handed over IP logs to Swiss law enforcewent too. There's only so far you can really trust any VPN. I still think they're more trustworthy than most other 'free' VPNs though.

Totally agreed. As much as I don't like them handing over that sort of data, its hard to justify demanding they accept facing prison time for some dipshit on their service.

Well at the very minimum all vpns have your IP, so it's not a big deal if proton complys with the law, Don't understand why we expect corporations to break the law

I've been using Proton VPN for years and I've never had problem with speed.

Handy rule of thumb I guess but I really don't think that applies to riseup in a meaningful way
