None of the ones that I know care at all. They see it as if their sports team won the big game. I have checked in to see if they care about Musk's Nazi salute, the response was "he was just excited and it was an awkward mishap". Checked in about their taxes being raised in the new policy, the response was "I don't know if that's true." Checked in about the unqualified appointments to high office, the response was "those are just smear campaigns by the left."

Honestly, short of Elon or Trump showing up on their doorstep and kicking their dog, I do think they will ever think "Hey, maybe he's not a good guy and doesn't have my best interest at heart." Fox News, Newsmax, and whatever the hell else these people have been swallowing has rotted their brains to the point that they will not see reality.

If their dog got kicked by musk or trump somehow the dog deserved it. That’s what we’re dealing with.

No they don’t. These headlines are telling you what you want to hear. Talk to people. The MAGAs love it. And Elon.

This silo-ing approach to information isn’t going to help any of us.

I'm surrounded by Trumpers, they're everywhere around here. So far I've talked to one with regrets, and he knew better.

What really gets me is how he's now complaining about stuff I warned him about back in September. He voted red because he thought it would help his imminent retirement. Also he didn't like Kamala.

This guy really thought the whole platform they've been pushing would settle into business as usual, and now he's a shocked pikachu.

Think of it this way.

There are a lot of places where Federal jobs are a mainstay of the economy. Maybe the VA hospital, or the military base, or a Federal office building.

When people see their neighbors losing their paycheck, it might start to sink in.

[–] CMLVI@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Nah. It's very much a "if their job was important, they'd keep it" mentality. I live in a basically forever red state; tariffs on coal are specifically threatening to close mines in WV because the Chinese won't import coal anymore (they are our biggest exporter). There isn't a single whisper of why this is bad for us; Trump has pledged to keep the mines open for years. He could put the lock in the entrance himself and the miners would kiss his feet as he did it.

That's scary.

I'm not counting on the hardcore MAGoos to change. I want the 90 million people who didn't vote to wake up

[–] CMLVI@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Would be nice, but if this election didn't wake them up, nothing is going to.

[–] kn0wmad1c@programming.dev 7 points 3 hours ago

You're forgetting that the mentality of his base is "he isn't hurting the people he's supposed to be hurting" (which is an actual quote).

They want pure, vindictive cruelty against anyone who isn't them. They're just as evil as Trump is.

[–] jumperalex@lemmy.world 23 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Nope, not until they lose their own, and maybe not even then. I love a great FAFO face eating story as much as the next, but you simply canNOT exaggerate the levels of cognitive dissonance these people are capable of enduring before their heads explode.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 15 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

"I'm totally fine with being hurt, as long as I think you're hurting them more."

[–] FIbynight@lemm.ee 10 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

True. My MiL was just like “well, I guess we’ll just use oil lamps and live like the 1800’s” if everything collapses ignoring completely they are 100% reliant on medicare, social security, and the VA to live, as is her whole damn extended family. Fucking idiots.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 8 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

She's not wrong. They will live like the 1800s. For a while.

[–] FIbynight@lemm.ee 1 points 52 minutes ago

I give them 2-3 months tops

This president, more than any of his modern predecessors, has more national opponents than supporters, and given the recent trajectories, his support isn’t likely to recover any time soon.

But what kind of power do his opponents wield, are they willing to use it, and are they willing to work with each other? Many authoritarian regimes have lasted for many years, some decades, with minority support. As long as Trump keeps the billionaires on his side, I don't see this changing for a very long time.

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 8 points 5 hours ago

Fucking how? He was already president once and was terrible.

The idiot demographic gets what it deserves..shame it's taking the rest of the world with it.

[–] minibyte@sh.itjust.works 14 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

It’s only been a month? Oh no.

[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 1 points 32 minutes ago

I thought they were joking, but no, it's only February 😭

[–] Bublboi@lemmy.ca 8 points 5 hours ago

Many do many don’t. Maybe have a vote.
