Great... US cars finance a Nazi supporter and Chinese cars are spy machines on wheels... Maybe, German cars are superior in the end...

Volkswagen got slapped on the wrists due to gaming pollution tests. Mercedes paywalls functions behind a subscription. I think a bike is your best option

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (3 children)

VW group is leading in Denmark now on EV, and is now almost twice as big on EV sales as Tesla!!
But the laugh gets better if you read on.
Because Skoda and Audi are closing in too, only 10-15% behind Tesla, and those are also owned by VW, and then just to cement their dominance, they also have Cupra with about half the sales of Tesla, and just for shit and giggles, they also have Porsche, which is the only luxury brand on the EV list besides Mercedes.

For January Model Y has dropped from being #1 sold model to 6th place!!! With WV group having 4 models that are more popular than Model Y!!
Model 3 is way down the list, so it's not just people waiting for the new model Y. Tesla sales are plummeting for real.

[–] TheFonz@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

This is good news overall but Denmark is just a population of 6 million. Let's hope the trend continues elsewhere

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

Yes Denmark is small, but sales of Tesla in France are down 64%, Norway, Denmark and Sweden are all down more than 40%, and Germany 59%.
So this appear to be a pretty strong European trend. And although Denmark and Norway are small countries, we have pretty big EV marketshare with 50% of cars sold are EV in Denmark, and AFAIK close to 90% for Norway.

[–] TheFonz@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Stop. I can only get erect so much.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Tesla sales are up in China for 2024 by 8%. But the market is up just over 40%, So Tesla is also losing significant marketshare in China.

I predicted already spring 2024 that Tesla would lose marketshare, I think Musk being a moron has accelerated the process, but it would have happened anyway.

My new prediction in view of recent numbers is that Tesla will not only lose marketshare globally, but their sales will decline.
In USA things are not looking good either, AFAIK sales are down in California, and that's by far the biggest American market.

Elon Musk getting more and more erratic (crazy) will probably mean he makes some stupid decisions for Tesla, And Tesla may likely turn to deficits within 3-5 years.

The only hope to prevent that I can see, is the openly corrupt Trump administration saving him.

[–] TheFonz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Yea. They haven't come out with anything groundbreaking in a long time and the reputation of the build quality is catching up. The last stint was that dumb taxi concept. My erection is only half chub right now but there's still hope.

I'd kinda like to get a VW, but jeez they are boring as cars. Boring is sometimes good in traffic of course, but a difficult thing when trying to make up your mind at the dealership.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

IDK what makes a car not boring for you, but you may like the Cupra better, it's more sporty than VW.

https://www.cupraofficial.com/brand/news/cars/cupra-born-vz

The Cupra Born VZ has the VW quality.
Personally I prefer Skoda Enyaq over the VW ID4.

But you could also just get a Porsche, I've never heard those being called boring.

Correction: Android and apple carplay are just as worse, maybe even more so.

If you're not American it doesnt really matter. Your data in china or your data in the US. Both are bad, m'kay?

[–] SulaymanF@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago

How is CarPlay just as bad? Apple said they’re not interested in your data or selling it and even anonymize the maps searches through their differential privacy method.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 8 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Android and apple Carplay aren't funding Musk and all the shitty, shitty things he's doing.

[–] Yprum@lemmy.world 0 points 6 hours ago

Google is going to likely sell his AI tech to the military, so you know... They are all shit. Which shit smells worse is a useless comparison, they are all shit.

[–] 0xD@infosec.pub 1 points 15 hours ago

No, just Pichai and Cook who fund Trump.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 119 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Congratulations Germany, you did well.

Tesla sales are down 59% for January Year Over Year, and EV sales are up 50% for January also compare to last year. And the marketshare is stated to have dropped from 14% to 4%. That means that Tesla marketshare dropped a whopping 73% !!!
Looking from the other side, it means that Tesla only has just above a fourth (27%) marketshare left, declining almost 3 fourths in JUST ONE YEAR!!! That's absolutely insane and normally unheard of losses for a major brand.

one factor behind Tesla’s sales decline in Germany could be that consumers were waiting for the upgraded Y model

I seriously doubt the new model will make much difference, it may help Tesla a little, but the truth is Tesla aren't really better than the competition anymore, facelift or not. Here in Denmark VW group thoroughly beat Tesla on EV sales for the year 2024. So no doubt Tesla is already in steep decline in many places. From what we know right now, sales of Tesla are in steep decline in Germany, France, Norway and Denmark.

Only UK is known to have only moderate decline, but they probably think it's independence for UK to buy Tesla, because fuck Europe for some reason???

[–] Swarfega@lemm.ee 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

That's a strange comment to make and I doubt it has anything to do with the EU.

Any UK EV car review I watch, the Tesla comes out on top. The issue with EV's is public charging and Tesla's charging network is a big reason people go with Tesla's. They also tend to have the longest range and retain their value longer. Company cars are also favouring EV's to make themselves look better and once again the Tesla is the recommended vehicle by the leasing company. Why? Because of the charging network.

The other obvious one is the UK public consumes a lot of US media and social media and therefore is now heavily influenced by the US.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 0 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Charging is not a problem for non Tesla cars in UK, you just need to be registered with about 7 apps on your phone. 😜
Here Tesla is no longer reviewed as a top car, except the price/range ratio is very good with model 3.
2 of the top reviewed in 2024 are the new KIA E3 and Renault Scenic Etech. But that is not at all reflected in sales for some reason.
For many reviewers the Skoda Enyaq 80 iV. was the shit a few of years ago, and it is still almost universally praised, and the newer Enyaq 85 is even better. I don't see Tesla having anything even close.
If I had more money, I'd be looking at the BMW i4.

Tesla cars are flawed safety wise by design, and have documented poor safety. I'm not sure they should even be legal here!!!

It’s more likely to be political apathy with the Brits. Most of us don’t seem to get and/or bother about politics…also only around 25% of the country were dense enough to vote for Brexit.

I hope Tesla completely collapses. Will enjoy seeing Musks wealth and influence fade

[–] S13Ni@lemmy.studio 84 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I fear he is now in position to force goverment to buy his shit cars. Cybertrucks for cops etc.

[–] themurphy@lemmy.ml 43 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He is, otherwise he will get funds in some way or another. Rich people can't become poor today.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 3 points 17 hours ago

If tesla failed and just lost his entire position...

He would still be a billionaire lol

These people can at fail. They are the system

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm torn on this one. On the one hand, fuck Musk. On the other hand, the US replacing huge fleets of gas vehicles with electric and building out all the attendant infrastructure would be a huge climate win.

[–] Goodmorningsunshine@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Plus, it's a vehicle that's likely to be shit for its owner, so I'm cool with cops having them en mass

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Round about way to defund them, force them to spend funding on maintaining overpriced junk.

[–] frazorth@feddit.uk 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That would be amazing. Cybertruck cops? They'll be letting everyone go when the trucks breaks down.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

you mean "police needs to buy more cybertrucks, so they always have a bunch of spares when they break down due to a puddle"

[–] frazorth@feddit.uk 5 points 1 day ago

Ha, you think that the backups even arrive to replace/repair? They'll break down in transit!

Lol it was like this with Twitter and Kamala. You guys live in a bubble m this isn't the real world.

Twitter didn't collapse and Kamala lost.

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 68 points 1 day ago (1 children)

A lot of them probably remember what appeasing Nazis leads to and don’t want to fund their own antagonist.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

There are very few that remember left, You have to be 90 years old to remember WW2.
But many of us learned about Fascism and Nazism in public school, and we have seen the historic very clear evidence of how evil it is.

[–] SlopppyEngineer@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

I can't go anywhere without seeing a few memorials of world war 2. They're everywhere so we wouldn't forget.

[–] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Those cars are crap anyways people should have stopped buying them for that reason alone years ago

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Absolutely, they've been praised for best range for the price, but the cars are crap, with 30% failing 4 year safety check in Denmark.
They also have a number of issues, on how functions are handled, both essential and non essential, that I personally suspect is the reason they have the worst accident record of all brands. Blinker on the steering wheel instead of on a stick, is OK in maybe 95% of the situations you need to use them, but the remaining 5% it's awkward and distracting, and maybe people completely fail to use them correctly.
So yes they are crap, in part because Tesla ignores safety or is even ignorant about why things are done like they are. And this is shown blatantly clear with the 4 years safety check here in Denmark. No other brand is even close to being as bad as Tesla.

[–] filister@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

That's uplifting news.

[–] droporain@lemmynsfw.com 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lots of brands made a comeback after they flushed the Nazis.

[–] BlackLaZoR@fedia.io 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You mean Porshe or Volksvagen?

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 1 points 17 hours ago

Porsche family still has a stake in VW... Nazi capital still kicking

[–] droporain@lemmynsfw.com 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

BMW, fanta, Kodak, Hugo boss... The Pope lol

[–] notsoshaihulud@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

“fun” fact, Porsche, the guy who founded the car company was a card carrying nazi. Pretty devoted. Just a great example of how the actual elites can support and benefit from insane wars without long term consequences.

[–] droporain@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 1 day ago

"I mean did he have a choice? Think of the poor ceos" /s

Nice! Fuck miso and that orange asshole.

It's been a couple of years since Teslas were the go-to option, at least this is making people catch up to the fact.
