It works on my phone, I've been using it for years. I'm currently using it off of Obtainium though.

Same here. It works flawlessly. I installed from Github via Obtainium.
Works flawlessly for me, install it from accrescent. Update graphene.
Do you need to uninstall Signal first? I wanted to see if I could run them side by side, just to see how it looked before uninstalling signal.
Well what do you know, the Accrescent version is also the FOSS one. So I uninstalled Molly from FDroid and removed the repo, and went to Accrescent, and installed that one. And...still crashes after setting the password. I've noticed I don't have any storage permission listed (I mean, not that it doesn't prompt for access, the permissions list doesn't even have the storage permission in there). Is this normal? Doesn't it need it for saving the database/backup?
Try enabling "exploit protection comparability mode" on the system app settings.
I do not think this is it though.
If you do not set a passphrase, does it work as expected?
Yeah... Even with exploit protection compatibility it crashes. And yes, if i don't chose a passphrase it goes through... What gives? What can i do?
Ask for help on the Grapheneos matrix channel. I do not have this problem on mine but they are more knowledgeable about this kind of stuff.
Also unless you use google services, you won't get notifications if you do this (use the at rest encryption with passphrase).

Things don't crash on me. But bank apps may not work, they usually use play protect and apps with that may not work. Also you will not have root access, it has to do with security but certain apps like titanium backup need root to work. I've heard seed vault (built-in backup) isn't that great but I haven't used it. I like GrapheneOS, the only annoying thing for me is the lack of notifications for certain apps. That's pretty much how it goes when you don't use google on your phone. My workaround is using a separate work profile that has sandboxed google play for apps that I need notifications for.
I avoid installing anything that isn't in F-Droid or Accrescent for spying concerns with a couple exceptions I Obtainium, so no banking apps. And yeah, notifications would be nice, but ideally FOSS privacy respecting apps will get better about actively seeking updates like a 90's email client. Afaik, all push notification schemes that exist allow Google or whoever is the provider to read all notifications that go through that in the clear, which seems baaaad!
Yep, google will be able to read your notifications. Which is why I only let things I don't care about google seeing use the sandboxed google play. Things like games, etc. I use Proton but no notifications for email (and yes I know about the CEO and Trump). That's more invasive so I just manually check my Proton inbox. You get used to workarounds. I also use a bogus gmail account not tied to me, fake name, dob, phone number, etc. I used juicySMS for it.
You can still get the notifications through UnifiedPush right?

Is your pixel up to date? Could you please provide the fdroid repo you have added to your fdroid client?
Yup, pixel 7 is up to date, usually downloads latest release update within the same day. I downloaded Molly from the Molly F-droid repo...is there any other repo? F-droid's own repo doesn' thave it, so I added Molly's one...

I gave their github issues a look and I did not find anything similar to this...
The repo is the correct one. I have no useful advice unfortunately. Either reinstall, use signal or wait for someone who can be more useful.

You're thinking of Molly-UP. The regular Molly and Molly-FOSS now both support UnifiedPush so there's no need for Molly-UP.
