If only there was a way to teach someone English as a foreign language /s

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago

Whoa pardner, that sound an awful lot like Communism. English cain't be foreign in 'Murica!

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 0 points 3 days ago

And that's how Ms. Doe's car got set on fire. Allegedly.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

In any half decent city, that teacher would soon end up hospitalized.

I don't really like implicit calls to violence but I really don't like fascist narcs.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We've started talking about how violence is bad only after someone suggested defending ourselves from fascists.

[–] nightofmichelinstars@sopuli.xyz 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't spend a lot of time in threads with calls to violence in the comments.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 days ago

You do spend a lot of time equating defense with aggression.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 days ago

You can only have so many of the latter before the former become necessary.

The educator’s identity has not yet been revealed.

I believe it has, because he had all of his personal information on his social media accounts.

For the web crawlers: FWISD Business Teacher Jason Buchanan.

I didn’t want to get in trouble lol

[–] sinkingship@mander.xyz 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

In this context ICE stands for "Immigration and Customs Enforcement".

For other like me that only know ICE as an abbreviation for "internal combustion engine".

[–] 474D@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago

I know it as really cold water

[–] WHARRGARBL@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

“I teach with these f**king libt***s every day and that’s what I talk to no one at work except the kids,” the account tweeted.

Lol how’s that substitute only talking to the kids, if the kids don’t speak English?

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 0 points 3 days ago

It doesn't sound like this teacher even speaks English.

[–] greenshirtdenimjeans@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I have many students who don’t even speak English and they are in 10th-11th grade

I wonder how many do speak english and were just trolling him because he’s a substitute.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Or trolling him because he's a racist arsehole

[–] shoulderoforion@fedia.io 0 points 3 days ago (2 children)
[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 0 points 3 days ago

arse /ärs/
noun.

  1. The buttocks, or hind part of an animal; the posteriors; the fundament;
  2. The bottom. The buttocks.
  3. (not used in US, Canada) A stupid, mean or despicable person.
[–] riskable@programming.dev 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I hear it's a pretty good site for tech news 🤷

[–] shoulderoforion@fedia.io 0 points 3 days ago

technically

[–] WatDabney@sopuli.xyz 0 points 3 days ago (3 children)

This is the real point of all of this.

Trump and his fascist coattail-riders really couldn't care less about undocumented immigrants. The goal of all of this is simply to make one subset of the proletariat hate another subset of the proletariat, to foment suspicion and distrust, and to condition people to report each other to the authorities.

[–] shoulderoforion@fedia.io 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

After calling ever strip of Latino rapists, murderers, and criminals, often and loudly, for the last 8 years, more American Latinos voted for Donald Trump in this last election than have ever voted for any Republican candidate in US history.

[–] GroundedGator@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago

But they aren't the immigrants he was talking about, they're the good ones.

The ruling class must always give the working class someone to blame. The others. The others should never be part of the ruling class. Those who are suffering must be able to punch down.

[–] Kaboom@reddthat.com 0 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It doesn't really work when that chunk is removed. And they were already criminals to begin with. That's what illegal immigration is.

[–] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Like he said, it was never about illegal immigrants. Ask the indigenous people being taken away if they think it's illegal for them to live here. Nvm the dreamers.

They are going by the color chart for now and will let the legal system settle the (many) mistakes, for those who can afford it at least.

[–] Kaboom@reddthat.com 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Indigenous? You know most Indians actually prefer the term Indian. You should really go out and meet some people you normally wouldn't.

That said, Indians? They're a perfect example of immigration gone wrong.

[–] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

You know most Indians actually prefer the term indian. (Citation needed)

The US gov refers to them as Indians, the government bodies representing them use Indians, hell they even still use Indian because colonialism; it doesn't mean "that's what they prefer" and it doesn't mean using indigenous in this context is wrong. Because apparently you don't know, in Canada we use "first nations" or "indigenous people" colloquially..

They're a perfect example of immigration gone wrong.

... Funny you aren't in a hurry to implement drastic measures to compensate for that. Whatever it's an example of it still doesn't explain why "indians" should be dragged out of their homes for not having white skin.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

When there's a confidently misinformed shit-take to be found, there's a good chance it's from someone on reddthat. You wouldn't be surprised how often it ends up being Kaboom, too.

[–] minnow@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago

Physical presence in the United States without proper authorization is a civil violation, rather than a criminal offense

https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/research/immigration-prosecutions

Illegal immigration makes somebody a criminal as much as a parking ticket does; it doesn't.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 0 points 3 days ago

ice is our gestapo/okrana

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 0 points 3 days ago

I usually sympathize with teachers who want smaller class sizes, but damn…

[–] Thistlewick@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 3 days ago (2 children)

With the stories of schools blocking ICE from entering their property to seize students, I just knew there’d be one rusty fuck that somehow decided to become a teacher while simultaneously having no regard for their students.

[–] ShareMySims@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 3 days ago

I hate to tell you, but there will be many more examples of this to come.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (3 children)

One story and it wasn't ICE, it was the Secret Service. Still never found out why the USSS was there.

[–] shoulderoforion@fedia.io 0 points 3 days ago

They were trying to find something to do now they can't get drunk and go to whorehouses on company time any longer (true story)

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I read ICE is under jurisdiction of USSS.

[–] ech@lemm.ee 0 points 3 days ago

Afaik, they're not. They both report to DHS.

[–] Jimmycakes@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago
