Hi guys. Basically as the title says I just saw the crazy expensive wokout apps subscription prices on PlayStore and decided to find free workout video programs solutions but couldn't find anything with good quality so I asked you guys here. Where to find beginner strength and cardio programs for free?

  • Starting Strength book
    • The program is simplistic, dont follow all the advice in the book but the guidance around compound lifts is good
    • Follow that basic program for a month or two (Or ice cream fitness), depending on your level of fitness you might like PHAT or PHUL.
  • Couch to 5k
    • Once you Can run a 10K It's simply a matter of determining what your goals are

On the software side:

  • Fitnotes
    • Although it's proprietary, it's free and that allows you to export your data into SQLite. Any llm (even a local one) will cobble together a dashboard with plotly/jupyter or even PyQt without much pain
  • Waistline Is an application available on F-Droid, This is open source. So, send the developer a donation if you like it.

Honestly nothing needs to be pirated really, you can find some great stuff on YouTube. Many of the programs are all the same stuff in different wrappings, so find a program you like and go for it.

For weight training, check out MidasMVMT (videos on YouTube, full programs on his website, all free).

For yoga/pilates, you may like Ashley Freeman and Saturno Movement.

If you want to keep them for your local media server, yt-dlp and off to the races. You'll also find some weightlifting, cardio, and general fitness communities here on Lemmy with great information as well.

I'm not quite sure what kind of videos you want specifically, but I would recommend stronglifts 5x5 for beginner strength and couch to 5k for a beginner cardio program

If you follow these programs for a few weeks, it should give you a great baseline to build from. If you have a new years resolution to get into shape, following these will smash that goal (Though you may want to choose to only follow one at a time and then transition to the other)

Couch to 5k works and is immensely satisfying for a non runner to tick off that mile stone.

Thanks but neither weight lifting nor running are an option for me unfortunately. Also you're absolutely right I should have said that was looking for at home without equipment and dumbbells kinda stuff

Check out the bodyweight fitness subreddit if you want bodyweight stuff. Their wiki and the r/fitness wiki is really good.

I had good success running their recommended program as a beginner and also when traveling.

LeanBeefPatty on YouTube has some great stuff, and it's been reviewed by sports medicine experts, who have said she does an excellent job with demonstrating good technique and giving good explanations.

I haven't used them in a while but Fitness blender has a good selection. You can pick options on their website - cardio/hiit/low impact etc. to find what you need. No over excitable workout leaders, nice and clear, straight forward vids to watch.

They used to be free, but looks like they have a large pay section now, with some free vids still there. They were all previously on YT too so look there as well if you like the style.

You‘re gonna hate me, but ChatGPT (any LLM tbh) is perfect for a generic start. Once you get the hang of it, it sucks, but until then it’s good.

The website I didn't know I needed. Thank you!

I bought the Runtastic six pack abs trainer and butt trainer (one time $5 fee for each app) several years ago and have gone through each program a number of times with excellent results. Especially considering the workouts were only about 10-15 minutes each (so 30 minutes to do one of each). These apps have been discontinued for new downloads but I bet you could fine similar apps for free or cheap that don’t require subscriptions.
