I don't know any Lemmy users IRL. I have nudged my friends towards it. My partner has asked me to post things a few times. Just curious.

Just one, the only relatively tech-savvy person I know irl

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 1 points 30 minutes ago

Added to the tally. I'm not sure if the tally is larger or smaller than I expected.

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Ha I'll add 0.5 to the count

[–] HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone 1 points 2 hours ago

0.5. One friend found my lemmy account when scouring the internet for TTRPG maps. I think that halfway counts, even if he doesn't have an account of his own.

[–] MakingWork@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

There seems to be 3 forum platforms.

  1. Lemmy
  2. Reddit
  3. Gab

I hear about reddit on the radio and people talk about reddit. No one talks about the other two.

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Interesting. This is the first I heard of Gab

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Gab's exclusively for nazis.

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

It's like a far right Lemmy? Huh. Kinda like bizarro Lemmy.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

I have at least 3 friends IRL that are on Lemmy. One of them I got to join, and two are friends I met doing mutual aid and other organizing projects. Later found out they're on here.

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

You are the only person so far that knows someone else's on Lemmy and you aren't reason they joined or vis-versa

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 hours ago

Huzzah! I know a bunch of geeks and radicals, so maybe that's why.

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Woah very cool. Excuse my ignorance but is "mutual aid" a term for helping out your neighbor? Which is something people have always done but it often sounds like when people use the term "mutual aid" it is a bit more organized. Does that ring true for you?

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, that's pretty much it. "Mutual aid" is meant to be distinct from "charity" which has a different kind of implication. Mutual aid is more about "we help each other". Charity can absolutely be organized, but tends to be more "structured" than mutual aid efforts.

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Makes sense. Thanks

[–] BlastboomStrice@mander.xyz 2 points 4 hours ago

So far I don't think I've met anyone

PS. According to the subscribers of the Greek community, there are probably less than 70 Greeks online on lemmy (and probably some of them live abroad), so it's probably rather rare to find someone who uses it.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 hours ago

Just my partner and I.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 4 hours ago

Big fat goose egg 0. A lot of people I talk to don't even know what Reddit is, really.

[–] Sheldan@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

I know one.

[–] seliaste@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 hours ago

I know one who I stumble upon once in a while in the comments, we say hi to each other

Zero. However I would be interested in seeing anyone in real life. I feel like it would go do in Lemmy history.

[–] Elaine@lemm.ee 3 points 7 hours ago

Two. The friend who sent me here and a friend I sent here.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 10 points 15 hours ago

Buddy, I don't even know myself.

[–] grasshopper_mouse@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

My partner was on it for like a minute but I don't think they use it anymore. Certainly not as much as I do.

[–] iSeth@lemmy.ml 17 points 19 hours ago
[–] diabolik@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 16 hours ago

None, as far as I know.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

0 and I hope I never meet any of you.

[–] nadram@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago

None. Although I've never asked

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 22 points 1 day ago

I've never met anyone in person who's even heard of Lemmy. Well, at least whenever it's brought up πŸ˜…

[–] LambdaRX@sh.itjust.works 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] konalt@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Trick question. I'm the only real user on the internet. Nice try.

[–] tiredturtle@lemmy.ml 1 points 13 hours ago

Everyone else is an agent in this honeypot

Dead internet fact

Lemmy? I can’t even get them off the goddamned Facebook.

Any time I’ve brought it up everybody glazes over the first time I say the words β€œinstance” or β€œfederated.” I’ve tried the email analogy, but they lose interest immediately.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 hours ago

Magic box is magic. Anything else hurts most people's brains.

In a way, it's impressive we got this far technologically before we started losing the plot, considering we evolved for the pointy-sticks-and-fire level.

Try 'non corporate reddit that isn't full of bots, and you can block assholes.'

[–] sudoer777@lemmy.ml 8 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

Call them "communities", not "instances", that might work better

This made me think about my struggles with trying to learn moves in fighting games.

The tutorial can’t tell me the move with actual button combinations. No. Instead I have to read it as punch + kick + grab first. And because I’m a friggin’ noob, I have to try to interpret what buttons those actions are.

How is this relevant? It really isn’t, the more I think about it. Bad comparison. Ah well. At least you know how sad I am at fighting games now.

Oh God I would never admit this to anyone IRL

None, and that's probably a good thing. And also really not unexpected given how small the platform is.

[–] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Zero. I know a couple of you nerds live in Philly and that terrifies me. I also know the reverse is true. This is the game we have agreed too.

2 in my local area. It's how I found out about it. We have been slowly growing the community.
