It isn't a great point.

Sure, what Musk did only further proves what a pathetic loser he is, but it's the equivalent of "My girlfriend goes to another school, you haven't met her". It isn't illegal or anything, it's attempted clout chasing that blew up in his face... it's just sad.

Both of these people could fall off a cliff in a burning Tesla and nothing of value would be lost.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

I'd mourn the lithium.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (2 children)

That's how you get forest fires though.

There are plenty of cliffs in deserts :)

some random twitch streamer is worse than any person I've ever heard of. Wow what'd they do! It's some video game leaderboard bullshit drama about Musk.

Lol fuckin quality journalism vice. Must be a really eventful news day.

[–] Vipsu@lemmy.world 139 points 4 days ago (7 children)

If Musk is ready to lie about his gaming achievements then can we really trust anything that comes out from his mouth.

I mean who cares if Musk is bad at POE2 but the fact that he goes to such lengths to lie about how good he is in a videogame tells a lot about his character and personality.

Have you heard his opinions on chess? He doesn’t play because it’s too easy.

[–] thejml@lemm.ee 73 points 4 days ago

That’s exactly what someone who sucks at it would say.

He's a narcissist. Of course he's the best at this and everything else he does. Any evidence to the contrary is division by zero.

I'm honestly shocked that you have to ask someone if you can trust him.

He is without a doubt the least trustworthy person on the entire planet. Even less so than Putin i would say.

He made a post using command line lingo too, but anyone with even basic knowledge of those commands can tell you that both the syntax and the way he alludes to them are wrong.

It's the equivalent of slinging a guitar in a picture to look cool but pressing the side with the strings against your belly.

My first instinct was to poke fun but it's actually important to keep breaking this overpaid influencer's false image. He's actively using it to push his harmful agenda.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 38 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I can‘t even tell for sure who of the two you’re talking aboout but I agree either way.

Such a /technology/ post.

The weird thing is like, this whole situation could have been avoided if he just played the game normally rather than pretending to be some god gamer at it.

[–] cazssiew@lemmy.world 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's for the same reason he's pretended to be a genius his entire career, he's obsessed with his self image and being number one. He's lied about being the best quake player in the world at some point. He's like Billy Mitchell with more money.

[–] lennivelkant@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 3 days ago

He's like Billy Mitchell with more money.

Careful there, or you'll have two nut jobs suing you

[–] Rakonat@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

Fragile masculinity combined with wanting to appear sufficiently tech savvy to tech bro investors. Tech bros want nerds because pretty much every dollar they've ever made was off the back of some innovation of someone they consider a nerd, so Elon wants to be the biggest nerd to tech bros so they will throw even more money at his dumb projects.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 3 days ago

The craziest part of that article is

Vice co-founder Shane Smith stepped down as CEO in 2018, but has remained the company's (...) The Canadian-born journalist’s focus seems to be trained on the southern border, with an editorial line closer to Trump campaign fearmongering than hard news reporting. (Smith is not to be confused with Vice co-founder Gavin McInnes, who left the media company and established the far-right militant group the Proud Boys).

So two of the three Vice media founders are now far right? I tried to find out more about Suroosh Alvi, the third founder, but didn't see much. Though on his X (🤢) he posts and reports a bunch of pro Gaza stuff.

I shouldn't be surprised cuz it looks like they all got rich off Vice, but still.

Who the fuck cares. Elon, is average moron playing average game. If this was something important, I could understand, but this is nothing more than attention whoring.

The Worst Person You Know

Asmon isn't even close to to the top of the worst people I know. What even is that title?

Oh, thank you, Vice! I didn't know Asmongold was worse than Hitler.

Garbage journalism what a joke. Fuck, I still remember when Vice was relevant and renowned for the work.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago

He is not far off

But the reason Vice uses Asmongold instead of someone like Quin69, who made the video showing Elon is a fraud, is because people know Asmongolds name and it gets Vice the clicks.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 47 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Actually it’s a dumb point because everyone and their mom already know he got boosted. Both of them should shut up and stop showing their face in public thank you very much.

I like to think this is the start of something important, Musks gaming account, realising that we can seriously sidetrack Trump by calling him the vice president and weird. The public is learning how to enact our own kind of political manipulation.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Isn't it weird that he's the top player in PoE2 AND Diablo IV?

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Plus a highly involved, successful CEO for multiple companies! I believe any of that is true as much as I believe he's a free speech absolutist.

[–] trashgirlfriend@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Do you think he pays Chinese teenagers to run his companies

Honestly don't care about Elon's PoE 2 account. Nor do I care much about Asmongold as a person, I only have a single important question:

What's with gaming streamers/youtubers trying to look like Jesus? GN Steve gets a pass, he's Tech Jesus and everyone knows it. What's up with Asmongold and that Penguinz guy though?

[–] AFaithfulNihilist@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (2 children)

By "look like Jesus" do you mean they are white guys with long hair and facial hair?

I think you might underestimate how easy it is to grow your hair out and stop shaving and instantly become a Jesus look-alike. No effort needed.

Also, these two dudes look extremely different from each other and obviously they look nothing like Jesus who was a 5 and 1/2 ft tall brown skinned Semite.

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I mean, I walked into the church hall for the daughter of my friends' baptism and everyone paused to look at me, even the priest. I even overhead "it's Jesus" from the mother who was 2 pews in front of me.

Seeing the bewilderment and expressions of everyone was just magical.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 3 days ago

Maybe wearing a white toga and a thorn crown was a bit much for a church visit

[–] Argonne@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Should have started asking for money bro

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

By "look like Jesus" I do indeed mean the popular modern western depiction of Jesus, because as far as I know, there's no conclusive proof of a historical Jesus existing, and if he did, he was obviously not a modern European-origin American man.

As for the second point - idk, it might just be because I can't grow a decent full beard, but after the first centimeter or 2 of facial hair, I just get told to shave because it's not funny anymore. I also can't imagine letting my hair grow for several years to get it as long as those guys. I thought one of the perks of being a man is that you get to be comfortable instead of spending years growing out your hair and shit lol

[–] barsoap@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's pretty well-established within the field of history that there was a Jewish mendicant preacher named Jesus of Nazareth who got baptised by John and nailed to a cross by order of Pilates. That's just as well (or badly) attested as anything else about notable people in Galilee at the time.

It's the rest that ranges from unattested to either allegorical or certainly made up.

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hmm, I was under the impression that there isn't much written about him until long after his death - but maybe I did let that one skepticon video influence me too much lol

[–] barsoap@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

Well, define "long after". The earliest surviving non-Christian source is Tacitus who is generally considered to be a reliable histographer and had access to records that are now lost, he wrote, in about 116 CE, in the context of Nero's burning of Rome (64 CE):

Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judæa, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular.

116 CE should be about 80 years after crucifixion, not that long. If the Romans had not done it they would have considered themselves slandered and mentioned it in their justifications as to why Christianity should be persecuted, it would have been part of the contemporary political consciousness.

He’s already demonstrated first hand he doesn’t know how to navigate the UI for someone who has invested time to be a top player. It’s obvious to anyone that’s spent more than a couple days in any game.

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 28 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Rich people work so hard to deserve their perverse wealth /s The only way they can still blow of steam is by pretending to grind online multiplayer games no actual working person has enough time for.

What kind of flex is this supposed to be?

I dont know path of exile in detail but being a top mmo player has always struck me of an archivement in dedication of time much more then inherent skill. The learned skill the pros have just comes natural with enough dedication.

My general reaction to something like it is not more then . Wow “you” must really enjoy this particular game. Is that reaction really worth cheating for?

Do we think he lacks the general life experience to be able to reflect on the common knowledge that a pro failed more times then the beginner has tried?

I known Elon is neurodivergent if not full on autistic but so am i and i cant make sense of this guys wims.
