50's gangster nyan cat.
I thought they were talking about nyaa.si for a second but thankfully not.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Thousands of anime fans were shocked Thursday when the popular piracy site Animeflix voluntarily shut down without explaining why, TorrentFreak reported.
"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Animeflix," the site's operators told users in a Discord with 35,000 members.
Although Animeflix operators did not connect the dots for users, TorrentFreak suggested that the piracy site chose to shut down after facing "considerable legal pressure in recent months."
Then in mid-May, rightsholders—including Netflix, Disney, Universal, Paramount, and Warner Bros.—won an injunction through the High Court of India against several piracy sites, including Animeflix.
On Reddit, some fans also complained after relying exclusively on Animeflix to keep track of where they left off on anime shows that often span hundreds of episodes.
“We hope the joy and excitement of anime continue to brighten your days through other wonderful platforms," Animeflix's Discord message said.

As they continue to make life harder for paying customers more people will stop paying
As a paying customer, the 1st time something was taken from me that I had paid for, was the last time I even tried to purchase video media legally.
I don’t disagree, but these weren’t paying customers
Correct they were non paying customer who were dissatisfied with the quality of service
They voted with their feet!
Instead of being an idiot and funding your enemy, they took direct action.
They deserve our respect and support
I never said anything critical of the users, I just thought the OP might have missed that detail. I pirate stuff sometimes when it’s not easy or reasonably priced to buy.
My point was that making life harder for non paying customers doesn't negate the fact that they make life harder for paying customers.
A bootlicker wouldn't understand this
Yeah. I legally owned most of the seasons of South Park. Then their parent company was sold to whoever owns Paramount+ and I can't legally buy seasons anymore. I have to subscribe to Paramount+ instead. I'm just gonna pirate that shit.
Not to mention some episodes ended up banned. I don't remember the season, but there was an episode where Kyle joined a cult and the super rescue team was composed of Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed and some other religious figures.
shocking users
Are they shocked though? It's getting common for piracy sites to disappear or move to different domains, there are always alternatives
No but Millenial journalism needs their shiti headline writing convention...
Say Thank you they didn't "slam" something
I see the entire article as simply a community reminder that free anime streaming is out there for interested parties.
Lord's work indeed
You know we're right here, right?
'Millenials are ruining headlines' is a level of meta I've yet to see from that trope.
This has an implication that headlines were better before which I didn't suggest
You used the term 'millennial journalism' in reference to shitty headlines. That pretty directly implies that millenials are responsible for shitty headlines.
That said: whoa nelly, my comment was a joke, not an argument. A pretty flaccid joke too, to warrant this kind of defense. I'm not your enemy, alright?
One head gets chopped off, two new ones spawn.
It's always an issue of service. Make it more available. Adjust the price. Increase content availability. It's not a rocket science problem, it's just a problem of corporate greed, and law abuse
It was a sad period to see one thing that worked so great fragment like this
animeflix wasn't even the best anime streaming site in my opinion. Sorry it's gone, but there's excellent options out there right now.
Please don't mention any good anime sites, i don't want it to be taken down due to too many users.
I doubt Lemmy has the traffic or searchibility to make that a realistic concern.
And they're literally on dbzer0 that has a wiki describing every streaming site.
Yup Gaben called it, just look at Steam.
But that doesn’t please the shareholders or appease the apparently ever more concerning necessity for infinitely growing profits.
Except if you're Nintendo. They somehow managed to kill the emulating sphere.
One head gets chopped off, two new ones spawn.
HAIL HYDRA
HEIRU HAIDURA!
Good. Even one less person watching anime is a win for humanity
How dare Japan have their own forms of entertainment!
You realize weebs are losers there too right?
They have plenty of non-anime related entertainment
To be a loser, you must first lose something. Like your sense of wonder and virginity.
Strange, because Wikipedia tells me that the highest-grossing Japanese film in Japan of all time was an anime, as were the next five and most of the others on the list:
That's a whole lot of losers for one small country.
Of course, that's just the highest-grossing Japanese film in Japan. The highest grossing film made anywhere in Japan is... the exact same anime, followed by another anime.

While you hate anime for no reason whatsoever, I hate you for hating something for no reason whatsoever. My hate still makes more sense.
I don't watch anime, but let everyone watch what they want. Even if they like to watch the "most degenerate" versions of Hentai. I don't fucking care.
Meanwhile, I just search "watch anime online" on ddg or yandex and check around, while ublock origins does its job and ensures I don't get harassed by ads and shit clickjack javascript (the ones where clicking anywhere opens the ad). A good pirate never makes a single port his home
I've been using the same anime/manga torrenting site since the mid 2000s and I can't believe it's still up. Gonna be a sad day when it finally closes down.
