WhatsApp is developing an AI-powered feature allowing users to create personalized stickers using their own images. The feature is currently in beta testing and is expected to be rolled out to the public soon.

Doesn't Snapchat do this already without AI?

[–] moon@lemmy.cafe 0 points 3 months ago

Google Messages already has this this

The worst feature Apple announced at WWDC, and people are already copying it.

Have some standards, WhatsApp!

The worst!? It’s brilliant! … but maybe you aren’t that good at making decent images.

Someone has a different opinion than you. Quick, insult them!

This is not an opinion it’s a statement

All opinions are statements, dumbass.

I like cheese

Both a statement and an opinion. Him saying it is the worst feature, since worst is ranking with 'goodness' and is therefore subjective, makes it an opinion in his comment. If you're gonna be a pedantic ass at least be right about it.

Someone says something about someone’s capabilities, it must be an insult! It must be pointed out!

  • it wast quick… took me two hours.

Signal has offered custom stickers for years, but it's up to the user to generate them.

I can see this being interesting for about 4 minutes until the novelty wears off.

I don't get why proprietary apps love having this feature creep where more and more stuff gets bolted on, usually just making the app unnecessarily bloated, buggy, unintuitive, etc.

I use similar feature on discord quite extensively (custom emote/sticker) and i don't feel they are just a novelty. Allows us to have inside joke / custom reaction to specific event and I really miss it when trying out open source alternatives.

I'm sure this is good for privacy.

Is this different to the custom sticker feature whatsapp has had for years?

Ive made a few stickers before that i can send to others.

Or is this a feature of the samsung gallery that is incorporated into whatsapp?

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago

They need AI to copy a feature Discord has had for the better part of a decade? Ok?

But being able to block people from sending me voice messages is never coming, right? It's still gonna be my dream, though
