Traditionally people actually bother to learn even a shred of information about a topic before they start having strong opinions about them. That way they don't end up saying embarrassingly and factually wrong things like "communism is just a dictatorship" or that the Soviet Union and China have no democratic processes is existence. (Or talk about the USSR in the present tense).
