Honestly, the more I think about this, I feel like keeping Threads will pull more people FROM there than it will push people away from Lemmy... once they learn what the fediverse is.
Anyone that's on Lemmy **now ** isn't going to go over to Threads.
That's not how EEE works.
Meta have yet to prove they can actually implement it though. I feel like we're worried about a theoretical, rather than an inevitability.
If you wait until it's a practical problem, chances are it'll be too late.
How? Nobody is going to switch platforms, so The only uses that they will have will be the users they bring and some users will switch away from meta to a more free alternative I can only see the numbers of users going up.
I see no point in preemptive action. I mean at least wait until they go live. I want to see if they actually are a problem you never know it might just bring some interesting new content.
"Let's just give the Nazis a chance at government. I want to see if they actually are a problem, you never know it might just bring some interesting new politics." -- most Germans in 1933
Lemmy.world benefits from threads and it allows a massive pool of users to subscribe to communities.
That is currently impossible though and we have no indication whatsoever that Threads will implement that part of the protocol
