If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

We had some great exciting and stressful battles in round 2.

Number 1 ranked Barn Owl dropped to one of our surprise newcomers, Buffy Fish, who is currently neck and neck with fellow winner Little Owl. Little Owl has been dominating the South Pacific division, taking out Ruru/Morepork and the Barking Owl. Fellow owl from down under, the goths of the Tyto genus, the Sooty Owls also came up short this week to Blakiston's Fish Owl.

Flammulated Owl is on fire at the moment, after having late upset victories over 2 of the all time Greats: the Great Horned and the Great Grey. Tomorrow though, we've got Fire vs Ice as the Flammulated Owl goes up against possibly its toughest challenge yet, the Snowy Owl! It's a battle of the Elemental Owls you're not going to want to miss!

Burrowing Owl and White Faced Scops also took some easy wins, but now they must face each other. Both have had a pretty easy go of things up to this point, but they're going to need to get serious tomorrow. Screech Owl is in a pretty dominating position of the Big F'n Owl right now, so whichever owl wins between Burrow and Scops isn't going to get any rest before facing another serious challenge.

Tomorrow is going to be intense, but then we will be down to our final 4 before crowning our winners this weekend! This is still any owl's chance to win, nothing but strong contenders are left.

How do you see the rest of this playing out?

What has been your biggest surprise so far?

I've seen some of you change opinions and get behind the owls that defeated your original choices, and some others are forming some outspoken fan clubs.

The one thing we can say for sure is that fish owls as a group have gained some serious popularity here, and we'll be seeing much more of them next year! Also some more in depth analysis of the little brown owl club so you can learn about more of the differences between them.
