From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

So I have an old laptop that I'm trying to use, for some reason when it wants me to put password in terminal it won't take input .to terminal

I was trying to get a browser and when it asked for password to get sudo the terminal wasn't taking any input to the prompt, I'm on xfce

I had a similar issue with Debian where it wouldn't log me in

The text doesn't show up when you type in a password, but it still registers it. Instead of showing asterisks it just doesn't show anything, but you are entering a password. Just type the password blind and press enter.
