Why would you assume a totalitarian regime is the only alternative to capitalism?
Sorry I didn't mean to imply I thought our (USA) capitalist system wasn't authoritarian/totalitarian.
Agree
Could you name any other system to have existed in recent times that was not totalitarian and completely devoid of capitalistic market functions?
I love the idea of communism, but it's just that: and idea.
We as a specias are too damn greedy and self obsessed to ever make it work, IMHO.
The past does not contain all future possibilities.
I get where you're coming from, I just think that it's not true, that people seem that way because we live under a fundamentally exploitative system and people are acting rational-ish in a fucked up system.
Not my analogy, but observing people living under capitalism and then concluding that humans are naturally selfish is like looking at workers in a factory where pollution is poisoning their lungs and then concluding that humans naturally cough a lot.
What a moronic take, Christian.
I, with many others, live in a capitalistic country and live a great life with social safety nets. The conclusion comes from empirical data that all former attempts at pure socialism/communism has failed due to human greed and corruption. If I am wrong, then show me so I can learn.
Do better than trying to ridicule someone just because they disagree with you. Argue in good faith if you want to have a meaningful exhchange.
No it does not, but it has been tested several times over and has failed every single time. At some point we should focus on improving what we have instead. No amount of downvotes will change that.
I don't know where you are from, but I do not feel like I live in a exploitative and fucked up system. Northern Europe for reference.

You calling me ignorant while displaying a complete lack of understanding of basic history is just sad.
I don't support your proven oppressive and evil form of rule. I never will and most people won't. You can keep telling yourself that we are all vicious evil capitalists for disagreing with you, but I guarantee you I support more socialist causes than you ever will.
Capitalism, liberalism and democracy are pillars of a society based on freedoms and rights. Liberalism is a literal antonym for totalitarianism. Any regime that removes one or more pillars is authoritarian/totalitarian.
Have you ever heard of anarchism? i.e. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_socialism
