You don’t know where they were going any more than I do. All we know is they were leaving the Square, and he was standing to stop them. We don’t know what conversation he had with the person in the tank (that part of the video was clipped out, presumably for brevity, because it goes on for several minutes).

Way to help them confuse the shit out of everyone with pedantry. We don't know where each tank went besides up the street (from the footage), but the tanks stayed in the city a long time after tankman before leaving the city. They were not leaving the city and he sure as shit wasn't stopping them from leaving. They were leaving the square but they didn't go back to base.
