Pffft, no. The fediverse does just fine without blockchain nonsense.
Nostr doesn't use a blockchain
You're technically right, although it does come with lightning/bitcoin integration — and a userbase of primarily cryptobros supplying the nonsense part.
I think tipping people for posts is really cool, though. They had a doge tip bot on reddit, but it didn't actually integrate with the network, so apparently when it shut down the owner of the bot just stole everyone's tips
