I expect we're going to be seeing a lot of crazy technological advancement coming out of China in the coming years. They've basically caught up with the west now, but technology doesn't progress linearly. There are mutually reinforcing effects from different technological breakthroughs that all combine to accelerate progress. And the other big aspect is that China actively direct technological development towards socially useful areas. Meanwhile in the west, technology is developed primarily to create profit for the financial capitalist class with little regard of any social value.

The other encouraging factor is the very deliberate, very committed stance chinese industry has on the sharing of knowledge and industrial processes which allows them to iterate at a pace that western capital can only dream of.

It's really incredible what can be achieved when you're not worried about milking every individual patent for decades and making sure no cheaper, more efficient alternatives are available even if you have to invest money to buy them up and put them on the shelf.

Exactly, in the west competition between companies is a zero sum game. This precludes companies from cooperating on technology, and leads to a lot of duplicated effort as people reinvent the wheel over and over. In China, competition is often a positive sum game where everybody gets to learn from each other, and move forward together.
