The agreement builds not only on Russian-Iranian cooperation regarding Ukraine and efforts to evade Western sanctions, but also on the North-South Transport Corridor – an initiative championed by Moscow to facilitate trade from Asia to Russia.

This route, designed to bypass geopolitical choke points like the Suez Canal and the Baltics, favours a land corridor through Iran, Azerbaijan, and the Caspian Sea.

Bit of copy pasta from the other thread:

You know, if our stupid government wasn’t so full of hawks, we’d have repaired our relationship with Iran years ago.

My father traveled there about a decade ago and said that everyone they met was super friendly and welcoming. He was forever jaded about the way their country is portrayed in western media after that.

Is their government fucked up? Yes. But we should try to build friendly relations in hopes of influencing them to treat their people better rather than causing them to cozy up to a shithead like Putin.

We shouldn't have enemies unless other nations actively fuck with us. I don't see Iran doing much to screw with us the way say China does with constant hacking and espionage. Sure, they support some groups that don't like us, but we keep sanctioning them and making life difficult for their people. It's petty how we're so powerful militarily yet feel the need to act hostile towards smaller nations. Of course, that's because there's money in weapons contracts, but I digress.
