TikTok isn't "Chinese social media." It's American social media that the Chinese control. It's an engineered product, and the function isn't showing you videos.

Both sides are correct. Or at least, half correct. They should both be banning both.

No, China does not control TikTok in the US. TikTok transferred control of the US instance to Oracle (and subsequently the US State Department) years ago.

The US doesn’t want to ban TikTok. They want to force a sale of TikTok to a US entity, as has been openly stated by the billionaires behind the political push. This is partly to make sure a US oligarch is profiting from the platform’s popularity, and to decrease transparency as US authorities increasingly combat growing leftism and anti-imperialism on the platform among Gen Z.

As soon as the algorithm is deployed, a lot of damage will be done. Doesnt mattwr what the US is controlling there. Brainrot will still happen in those kids, giving them a harder time in School

TikTok is owned by ByteDance, which is a front for the Chinese Communist Party. It's being used by the CCP to spread agit-prop and self-destructive crap.

Other countries use their "social media platforms" the same way, but that's no reason to make it easy for other governments to destabilize your society.

Especially when your own government is doing a fine job destabilizing society already.

So it's a social media, made by China, making it Chinese social media. If you want to argue that its not the social media used by the Chinese, that's different and should be phrased more clearly.

I could say exactly the same thing to you! You clearly understand the distinction I am making. But you have nothing to say about that, you just need to express your OCD. You're being noise. Do it to someone else.

The function of no social media is to show you content. It once was to generate revenue, but recently x and meta have become the same propaganda machines as tiktok, just owned by different megalomaniac fanatics
