I don't get this take. While incredibly disappointing, it is not in the least bit surprising to see these people chasing phenomenal paychecks. Their "integrity" is for sale.
You can also argue that as soon as you are dealing with the level of money in top league football, there is a very, very slim chance that the money is coming from an ethical place.
Yeah, because the world is a binary and FSG and the Glazers are exactly as unethical as an oppressive and genocidal regime that routinely murders and tortures people 🙄
There's deeply unethical rich people and then there's "stark example of how despicable barbaric humanity can become when afforded absolute power and no consequences for transgressions". Those are NOT THE SAME.
My point was more aimed at players switching to the Saudi league isn't surprising, as many footballers are definitely in it for the money first and foremost.
But on the money point, all these US sports families for example (Glazers, Kreonke's) are all heavily politically tied to the US government who hasnt exactly been a peachy friend to a bunch of countries. Hell even FIFA/UEFA get most of their prize money from these clowns (e.g. Gazprom, Qatars world cup etc.). DON'T GET ME WRONG - I fucking hate them all - I just don't buy that someone kicking a ball in Saudi Arabia is ethically more correct than someone doing it for the Glazers who then donate millions to the GOP.
Sportswashing is gross on all fronts and the only way to stop it is to stop consuming it.
