He hasn't released on streaming yet or YouTube only insta and Twitter. Once it's up on streaming he said all proceeds will go to The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Didn't expect that. I don't typically listen to Macklemore, I admit I'm more of a Tribe, Kendrick, MF Doom, Deltron, Mac Miller kinda guy.

Is he good? Subjective question, but maybe given the above taste you can clue me in. Would love to embrace a new artist.

Check out his earlier album Language of my World. It's fantastic and a lot less poppy than his modern stuff.

Yeah I don't really listen to Macklemore much. More of my partners thing, and like you, I listen to Doom, Kendrick, Tyler the Creator, old-school Kanye before he lost it, Wutang Biggie, etc. He rhymes pretty well and has some pretty sick raps. Seattle home town hero.

I love that you guys had to list like 5 MC’s to explain what kinda hip hop you listen to.

Is that an invalid form of communication? This seems like critique, but I don't understand the how or why. Maybe I'm misinterpreting.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Totally valid. Just so specific like u gotta be certain nobody misinterprets your hip hop credibility.

Haha, I see your PoV, had never considered that. I guess to me I was just like sharing ice cream flavors I like :-)

I am too old to think I'm cool, hahaha

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Haha for sure. Being cool is an illusion.

He is, just hit play and skim through. It’s not hard at all these days to get a taste of an artist.

Macklemore has these conscious rap lyrics regularly on his albums somewhere between the more radio friendly songs. I mean they had "same love" back on The Heist album, "White Privilege II" on This Unruly Mess I’ve Made album and there probably are more than I can think of.

I have not followed him closely in recent years but I guess most of his music is still stylistically poppy which I personally am not a fan of.
