Why would Russia blow up the NPP when they’re winning the war?

Right, but they are not, they are ~~barely holding~~ losing ground.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Imagine being so utterly misinformed to think that Russia is losing the war. Let's just see what somebody who actually has a clue thinks https://mearsheimer.substack.com/p/the-darkness-ahead-where-the-ukraine

[–] iopq@vlemmy.net 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Imagine listening to someone who is such an expert he said Russia is not stupid enough to invade Ukraine. Yet just a little while later he's an expert again

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah yes, we should instead listen to the experts who claimed that Russian economy was going to collapse in a month, that Russia would run out of weapons, and that Ukraine was going to make a blitzkrieg offensive that was going to go to the sea of Azov in one day. 🤡

[–] iopq@vlemmy.net -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I never linked to such people, what are you even talking about

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The fact that you're arguing Mearsheimer doesn't know what he's talking about based on him not having thought that Russia would invade Ukraine shows what an utter clown you are given that pretty much nobody in the west predicted that. You don't have to link to anything, it's pretty clear from your comments what "experts" you rely on.

[–] iopq@vlemmy.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nobody in the West predicted that? He said it when the Russian troops were already massing at the border.

Shit, I already predicted it. I shorted the Russia ETFs which were liquidated last year (I made 90%+ profit)

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, nobody in the west predicted that and the state department was even saying it was unlikely. Shit, you really should've called them up and told them!

[–] iopq@vlemmy.net -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They were sounding the alarms for months, since the fall of 2021

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Mearsheimer was sounding the alarm 7 years go, not sure what you're trying to say here to be honest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrMiSQAGOS4

He also wanted Ukraine in NATO I think in 1997

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And being an educated adult capable of rational thought, he realized why that was a bad idea later.

[–] iopq@vlemmy.net -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ukraine in NATO in 1997 would prevent this war, Russia was in no shape to invade anyone, still dealing with Chechnya

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There was zero chance of NATO accepting Ukraine in 1997 as anybody who has any clue at all understands. Meanwhile, what would've actually prevented this war was for Ukraine to declare neutrality and renounce NATO ambitions. That option is certainly going to look pretty good when this is all over.

[–] iopq@vlemmy.net 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The Baltics joined NATO in 2004, Russia did nothing despite long control over the region and a large Russian minority. Had Ukraine been in this position the whole war could have been avoided, since Russia would not invade a NATO country

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 1 year ago

The Baltics aren't Ukraine, you keep exposing yourself as being utterly ignorant regarding the subject you keep attempting to debate. You're like the poster child for the whole "I did my own research" meme.

And causing a nuclear disaster would help with this how? PS: When you hold part of your opponents country that means you're winning.

[–] Spzi@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

causing a nuclear disaster would help with this how?

The plant is located near the front lines, along a probable route to the Sea of Azov. Blowing it up creates an obstacle, making advances and supplies more difficult.

When you hold part of your opponents country that means you’re winning.

That's a stretch. Like Germany was winning WW2 until it was kicked out of France.

True, it's probably the best Russia can achieve but far from their goals. And they've been losing ground steadily now.

[–] Potatofish@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They have a child-like mentality. If they can't have it, then blow it up. Now no one gets it.

[–] HMH@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Please explain your argument, I do not think it makes any sense but instead dangerously misjudges the Russian government/military.

Assuming they have a child-like mentality:

  • Why is there no massive bombardment of Ukrainian cities and infrastructure? Might as well do that for cities out of reach instead of blowing up a NPP.
  • Why didn't Putin order to have all Wagner soldiers killed after what happened a few days ago?
