so I am not exactly unknown for having stupid ideas. I probably lean into it too much.

But I've had another one and I like it so putting it here for community critiques.

Atlas shaves 2: electric bugaloo

So atlas shaves is the poor unloved step child of the r/wetshaving extended community events. It's not got the weight of LG nor the community engagement of austere august. It's also kind of a weird one getting people to not shave... It doesn't quite fit, and I don't think it was properly run on the last couple of years.

But the idea of a feat of strength, of endurance and of winning by virtue of being the strongest. The world's strongest man. I like it so I want to make it come back. But more sub friendly, more the kind of thing that if I wasn't getting him to be the main prize sponsor that priusaurus would be desperate to win. Also more me. Not the kind of challenge you can win by planning ahead.

Anyway. On to the idea. It's half formed and needs some work...

  1. February obvs.
  2. Points so there can be a winner
  3. Ability to be knocked out old school lather games
  4. Last shaver standing or most points if more than one makes it through the month
  5. Multi channel to encourage community engagement across the different social media types

Basic principle you get a maximum of 10 points a day.

1 point for multi posting your SOTD to at least two of lemmy, reddit, discord, irc, or whatever others we have that are semi approved community sites Plus 1 point for actively engaging with someone else

Plus either 8 points for shaving with the days soap*

Or

5 points for shaving with the same artisan of the days soap

Or

3 points for shaving with the same scent maker of the days soap

Or

2 points for shaving with a soap by a different maker that has more than half of the same scent notes.

Or

1 point for airbudding it (note air bussing can only be used once per person)

If you cannot shave on theme, you are out.

  • The soap of the day is the first latherbot quiz answer soap from discord that is offered after midday gmt the day before. (E.g. the 1st of Feb soap is the answer to the first latherbot question asked after midday on January the 31st)

Thoughts?

Thanks of the Society were voted to JR. Knight , Esq., for a Collection of Hone- Stones and Grind- Stones , presented by him ; together with the following Descriptive Catalogue of them

I stumbled upon this recently when looking through my old Reddit posts. That was years ago and I'm still left curious about "Cutler's Green".

Dual Mail Call (sub.wetshaving.social)
submitted 2 weeks ago by djundjila to c/wetshaving

I had two new arrivals this week. First, a combination of Barrister and Mann and Spearhead goodies reached me:

Fleur de France is a favourite of mine and I was super lucky to get a backup tub and splash of this discontinued scent in the Spearhead anniversary giveaway. Added bonus, it's in my favourite base, 20.1. I also bought a backup frag, since it seems very unlikely to ever be made again.

I already have and like Nocturne in the Zslur version, but I'm uneasy using their ill-named products, so the recent BaM re-edition was the perfect opportunity to further dezingify my den.

The surprise star of this part of the mail call is Roam Two though! I have OG Roam in the Soft Hearts base (including the finger balm that's going iffy). I love its deep dirty grass scent. I first smelled it as a kid, maybe 11 or 12 years old, when I went on my first spring tent camp with my scout group (before that, I was a cub and the camps were in huts and houses, not in tents). We had set up our tents on a friendly farmer's pasture in the Jura mountains at the edge of the forest and near a little stream. I was in the team that built and maintained the kitchen tent, and after the second day it started raining and never stopped. Everything turned to mud, the wet grass between the tents got trampled down and its scent combined with the smoky tarp of the kitchen tent is OG Roam. I love the scent, but it's not the most wearable in an office setup. When I read that Roam Two is significantly different, I was both worried and hopeful. Worried it might have lost what triggers happy memories for me, hopeful it might be a more wearable fragrance. Well, Will knocked it out of the park! It still has that wonderful outdoorsy feel, but the smoke and dirt are less prominent. It now feels outdoorsy in a similar way as Shire or Valedictorian do. Yayy!

Second, I got this pretty Mühle Purist brush with an ebonite handle as a total blind buy:

I had been on the fence about this for a while and posted questions about Mühle badger experiences all around, but got no feedback. There are only very few users of these brushes in the forums I know. My first shave brush was a Mühle travel brush with a tiny synthetic knot and it was bad. As I went down the rabbit hole of wetshaving, I switched to bigger synths, badgers, boars, and horse knots and I haven't looked back. I often wondered how it was possible that Mühle kept selling these tiny knots. This particular badger knot has a 21 mm diameter, and they call that the "medium" size. And it's not like these are cheap, either. Apparently, there is a market for these somewhere. When this brush came on a big discount I threw caution to the wind and got it. Let's see whether there's something to tiny German badgers.

I've lately sold a few of my razors and again find myself spending longer than I really intend sharing my subjective opinion on what new users ought to do with them. Of course there are guides out there (and plenty of videos but I'm happy to leave that part to others) but somehow I still feel compelled so I might end up writing one of my own. In order to combat this, I'm trying to gather a comprehensive list of contemporary guides and maybe pick a favourite.

I've tried to exclude any that are too superficial, just copied/summarised/LLM'd from elsewhere, or have outright bad advice. Did I miss any good ones? Did I include any I shoudn't have? Let me know and I'll try and keep this updated.

Overall (some incl. honing)

Body shaving for ladies? (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) by dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works to c/wetshaving

So I've been wet shaving a long time and I'm pretty handy with a DE razor, a half hollow straight, and a shavette, but I'm at a loss for this one...

My wife is getting laser hair removal for several areas including Brazilian, and there are sone places she just can't shave. Apparently a wax is no good because they are basically destroying the hair root and follicle and it targets the melanin?

So, to the point, my wife took a shower today and did her best, then I took a quick shot with my adjustable DE, but the results were... not so good. I think this may be a shavette problem for control, but I gotta see what I'm doing so a thick soap lather cushion is out. Also there's some delicate contouring obviously which is pretty different from my leathery flat face.

The treatments are kinda pricey so it's important to get a clean shave, and anything she can't do is basically the most important stuff to zap... But I figure the first time I cut her or leave a nick I'm out. I gotta figure out the... uh... Front door back door problems because those are just not flat areas and the risk of failure or accident seems high.

Anybody got experience? Or ideas? Water-based lubricant was pretty decent (the third thing I tried) to help the shave, but tools and materials seem like important choices to make.

Edit: Mods I'd mark NSFW but idk how to do it. This is like my 3rd lemmy post ever.

I'm curious about experiences, and if you have comparisons with other badger knots I might know (such as Declaration B3, B7, B16, Maggard SHD, Maggard Silvertip, Zenith Manchurian, AP Shave Co Gelousy), even better!

I usually face lather and get consistently good results at this point.

However, when I get a .5 oz. or less sample I'll smush the soap down into a thin, even layer using one of those collapsible slow-feed pet bowls. Every time I get a foamy bullshit lather.

I'm unsure how to get an equally wet and slick lather with the bowl. Do I just need to keep adding water? Move to the face sooner? Give up and grow a beard?

After months of relentless propaganda over on the sub, I ordered this set of D. R. Harris Marlborough.

Warm and woodsy, this smells pleasant enough

I enjoy shaving in the shower but I also like to keep my sideburns even. Can anyone recommend a good fog-free mirror that can be stuck up in the shower?

Thanks.

P.S. I posted here since I shave with a safety razor and you guys seem like a fairly active community.
