Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

This may be a stupid question but does Jerboa support other instances or just Lemmy.ml? I'm on Lemmy.world.

Edit: It does. I just needed to open the sidebar, click on "Anonymous" and it brought up the login dialog where I could select my instance.

It does. I'm at beehaw, currently using the app, and I leave the setting at federated so I can see the content across all instances.

The fact you can use Android password manager is already a huge improvement.

Loved it! Been using this client for a while and I like it currently but I like that better.

I think it looks great. Can't wait to see it evolve.

One issue I'm having is images in comments aren't showing up.

I'm seeing the same, not sure if it's all images in comments or just that one

Since you are asking, here's my primary 2 complaints about the UI so far that so far seem unaddressed:

  • not having placeholders for community icons and user avatars is jarring. This pushes the text around which makes each card slightly missaligned with the last depending on if there are icons/avatars. This gets tiring to read. It doesn't need to be fancy. It could be a black box, or even just padding.
  • in the same vein, it's hard to see what post/comment link is in what instance. This is especially important because different moderation rules apply to different instances. Also, celebrate the diversity of federation!

How about each community having its own theming?

I was thinking about the placeholder icon thing for a while, it's a big pet peeve of mine too but I'm not sure what to put instead.

We talking about for users or communities? I think a Lemmy mouse or a jerboa would do the trick for now

Looks awesome. Can't wait to see it in the next update.

Great work! One suggestion: I think the bookmark icon on Jerboa should probably be changed to match the star icon on the lemmy instance website.

Preferably I would like the opposite (the star to change to a bookmark), but either way I think it should probably match.

Any news on when this might be rolled out?

Your picture isn't showing up for me :( I also haven't been able to use the app yet, I downloaded it but no matter what button I press on the screen it just keeps telling me I need to "login first" and I can't log in anywhere...

Click the three lines button at the top left to open the sidebar. Then at the too right of that bar there is a drop down arrow. Clicking this will get you the option to add account. Clicking add account will give you the login prompt where you will put in your site url and credentials and should be good to go Best of luck.

Absolutely love it. Progress is happening so fast! Before long this is going to be a world class app!

[–] haakon@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago

And it's progress we can hold on to forever. It's not going to arbitrarily stop working some day.

Do it! This layout finally looks usable enough.
