For owls that are superb.

If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

This little weirdo was photographed in Malaysia.

One of my favorites, due to his unique look. So haunting and eerie, yet so amazing at the same time.

The first photo makes these guys look like... some kind of alien in a horror flick, or maybe their pet. This one makes me think they're merely misunderstood.

That's my thought as well. Shocking at first, but then super cute in a way I can't explain.

Bonus Brown Fish Owl!

That is such a weird, but cool animal. Very alien like. Thanks for posting OP.

Precisely! They make me think of The Greys 👽

Thanks, I've never heard this song before! I like it!

Welcome! I always liked it too! The Kinks did one too, “Animals in the Zoo.”

This looks like a moth shapeshifting into an owl and forgot to get rid of some moth bits. Very cool.

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I kept getting reptilian vibes. Definitely mid shape shift though!

That's the radest owl I've ever seen. I want a tattoo of one of these

These guys seem to almost distort with any movement they make. I've read they sit abnormally upright for an owl, which makes me wonder if they have different bone or muscular structure in any way. I haven't found anything on that yet though.

I've never been one to encourage someone to rush into a spur of the moment tattoo, but I will make an exception.... DO IT! 👹

Thanks for the encouragment!

The truth is I wanted some owl tattoo for a longer time but I've never seen species that's so unique and steal my heart just from one picture.

And all those typical "ask random preson to imagine an owl" owls are kinda boring and ...corny? Not to insult anyone, every owl is cool but that's just how I feel about tattoos 😅

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

It makes sense. I'm not a tattoo person (I change what I like or not too much!) but my brother is. I know he likes his later tattoos that he had a lot more input over it one his daughter drew then his early ones that were more of the "draw me a cool - " whatever.

Looks like the inspiration for several automotive concept designs IMO

I'd drive an owl car... As long as it comes in owl wheel drive!

I actually just gasped out loud as I was scrolling. That thing is amazing

This guy and another one I want to post about today are the least owl-like owls I've come across.

I've been amazed by this one since the first time I've seen it, which surprises me, given it took me a while to get used to the Tyto owls, aka the Barn Owls.

It is definitely in my top owls, there's just nothing else like it, and I'm glad to see the positive response to it finally. I've posted it a few times before and it was not the sensation I felt it should be.

Agreed! I really like the look over the shoulder one, it's super unique. I also liked the chubby legs in the other one.
