PayPal has been doing this shit for decades. Y'all remember when if you were involved in a payment dispute they'd put a hold on your entire linked back account? Or when you contacted customer support they told your to wait # amount of days before filing a complaint? And then when you did they told you to contact the seller because lol fuck you? It's almost like the CEO was a raging asshole or something.

[–] bigFab@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago

Yup. Among the victims VideoDownloadHelper Addon. They don't accept Paypal donation anymore.

[–] whenigrowup356@lemmy.world 101 points 1 year ago

They are altering the deal. Pray they don't alter it any further.

[–] aeronmelon@lemm.ee 52 points 1 year ago

You add your card thinking you can remove it at any time

PayPal: "All too easy."

[–] dmention7@lemm.ee 39 points 1 year ago

Paypal has altered the deal. Pray they do not alter it further.

[–] ninekeysdown@lemmy.world 39 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Add another card, in my case I used a virtual card, then you can remove that card. If you use a virtual card you can invalidate that card when you’re done.

[–] SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org 23 points 1 year ago

I tried it already. Still not working. Tried to chat with customer support, but they only open at 8am. It's around midnight here.

[–] kite@lemmy.world 31 points 1 year ago

They did this to me decades ago and I ended up having to get a new card so the old one would no longer work. I haven't used paypal since. Fuck them.

[–] willya@lemmyf.uk 31 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They locked my account and are holding my funds for 6 months.

[–] SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Some people in this comment section would probably find a way to blame it on you lol.

[–] Candybar121@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hold my beer

Ahem

It's your fault because you used PayPal in the first place.

[–] SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's the one take where I agree with the victim blaming lol.

[–] naticus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah, how dare you use one of the oldest, most widely accepted forms of online payment, right?

I remember all the victim blaming back around 2010-2011 when PayPal users were getting banned on Steam because of random payment holds PayPal was conducting. They've done some really shady things over the last couple decades.

[–] XTornado@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 year ago

I mean I wouldn't allow you either, that card is magnificent and the fact the picture shown online is not a generic card is more magnificent. Removing it from anywhere should be a sacrilege.

[–] Pharmacokinetics@lemmy.world 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's what you get if you work for the Empire.

[–] CaptPretentious@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

The empire did nothing wrong.

Side note, would recommend considering a bank that doesn't support the fossil fuel industry. Sadly, Chase is among the worse offenders.

Report the card as lost and they will issue a new one with a new number.

[–] badaboomxx@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

I've been trying to change my account region for 10 years without a coherent or positive response so far.... good luck with that.

[–] red@sopuli.xyz 17 points 1 year ago

I had the same issue with Google Workspace. Could not terminate my subscription until I "deleted all apps", and apps list was empty. My pre-cancelled tier did not have customer support privileges.

I had to cancel my credit card and have been getting warnings about being sued if I don't add a working payment card.

[–] Kir@feddit.it 17 points 1 year ago (6 children)

I'm sorry but WTF is a Star Wars credit card? And why?

[–] funkless@lemmy.world 53 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have this card.

I'm an immigrant to the US by way of marriage. When I moved here we opened an account at chase where my now wife banks - a joint for us both and one for me.

When faced with having three near identical blue cards I asked if there was any option other than blue

Imagine my face when I heard possibly the most American phrase I've ever heard: "You can have the brand colors, or Disney"

It's a Chase debit card. Just has Star Wars branding on it.

It was free. So why not?

because stupid jedis keep shooting a hole in your aesthetically designed weapon of planetary destruction

[–] ZeroDrek@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

It’s just a debit card with a custom design on it rather than the default chase design.

[–] CascadianGiraffe@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

To prepare you for the future when the police stop you and ask to see your Disney papers.

After all if you don't exist to Disney, you don't really exist at all.

I mean yeah I guess a bug is clearly mildly infuriating. But it's also a bug. And the way your title is phrased, it's like PayPal is intentionally preventing you from removing your card. Which it doesn't seem to be pointing to here. Like I could imagine if they don't want to let you have no cards on your account without completely closing the account. But the message would say something like that. Like "you're required to have at least one valid card on your account. " The message isn't just going to say something like "please try again later" unless its a bug. That's just telling you that a bug happened and you may need to contact customer support to resolve it.

[–] snowadv@lemm.ee 35 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Why would you be so sure it's not intentional?

In my country insurances won't let you buy one that is necessary-to-drive by adding such "bugs" and impossible captchas for newbie drivers and motorcyclists. Works like a charm in a court - they just say it was a bug

[–] gkd@lemmy.ml 29 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

PayPal is notorious for displaying meaningless errors for just about everything, even when it is intentional. Might not be the case here, but they definitely do things like this.

Though if I had to put my money on it, if it isn’t a bug it’s an anti fraud measure of some sort.

[–] thepixelfox@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

I worked for them. I've seen their list of error code reasons. Literally one of the error codes you could get was labelled as 'WTF happened?' on the list.
'Too many buckets' was another one, that one made me laugh tbh.
But they literally have like a 12+ page document of error codes and what they mean. The system is pretty buggy.
But generally our solution was, clear cache and cookies or try a different browser. It 75% of the time worked. If that didn't work, customer service could remove cards for you.

[–] Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi 4 points 1 year ago

For me, PayPal said nothing until I called them. I made an expensive purchase via PayPal, they bounced it back with no notification that it was bounced back whatsoever, making it a headache for me and the seller. I had to make sure that it wasn't going out twice, which thankfully it didn't but the lack of an error message or anything was so unhelpful.

I just used my card straight-up after that. The card was under Visa, so it was subject to Visa's checks as well as the bank's own (where you can use SMS or app-based verification).

Lol. PayPal wanted me to jump through more hoops than my bank when my legal name changed after I got married. I literally provided them with documentation and they wanted me to send them a physical notarized official copy of my marriage license.
