MODERATORS

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/37090761

This includes some porn subreddits as well as subreddits like /r/Drugs. Apparently due to being "unmoderated", but some were not. What are your thoughts?

Edit: apparently also subreddits like /r/transgender_surgeries is banned too. Definitely feels politically motivated.

People were predicting this a while back as a way that reddit would make themselves more "advertiser-friendly".

I also wonder if there were some legal concerns in those states that now require porn sites to check IDs.

Certainly expected. It was my last social media (apart from Bluesky). I can't endorse this as a trans man. Time to be more active on Lemmy and purge my Reddit account.

Hu? you are here? Aren’t you?

[–] darthelmet@lemmy.world 11 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Idk if this distinction works for anyone else, but in my mind places like Reddit or Lemmy aren’t the same thing as “social media” because they maintained the anonymous forum structure. The activity on the site isn’t centered around people and personalities, it’s the content being discussed.

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I agree, but with “last social media” he was referring to Reddit…

[–] darthelmet@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Oh. Yeah. Maybe he just meant “last” as in the one prior and not last as in final? Idk.

I wasn’t super active (I created my account when they banned third party apps but the content wasn’t there yet).

It looks like a lot of the subs mentioned in that post are back already, including the ones mentioned in the post tile. While i completely agree that reddit is a shitstain, this may have been a bug?

[–] squirrel@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 8 hours ago

It's a very strange coincidence that these are the subreddits that are suddenly experiencing a "bug".

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 12 points 7 hours ago

Strange, same bug as in meta, hmmm! Are they preparing something and went live too early??

Big firewall of US incoming??

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 13 points 8 hours ago

More like cover for banning certain subs.

[–] Kaboom@reddthat.com -5 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

/r/rule34 is banned, meanwhile /r/guro is still up. Wtf is wrong with reddit? That's the one sub I actually think should be banned, why ban the rule34?

[–] 2xsaiko@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

How about neither of them should be banned. Fuck this puritan BS

[–] Kaboom@reddthat.com 0 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

Do you know what /r/guro is? It's sexualized gore.

[–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 5 hours ago

It's art. It's not real, and it's not hurting anybody in real life. We shouldn't ban things because they make you uncomfortable, we ban them when they harm actual people.

Edit: this is in no way an endorsement of that particular fetish. I personally think it's sick and disgusting. But it's not my place to tell someone else not to enjoy it if nobody was harmed in its production.
