Being a landlord is a talent now?

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

Not everyone can manage to be born with a tremendous amount of money

[–] crmsnbleyd@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago

Not everyone can be so heartless

I read this and immediately wrote a letter to the faceless corporation that owns and manages the building where I live. I told them how much I appreciate them and how I defend them when people criticize them for frequently out of service elevators, constant false fire alarms, and any other thing that people don’t like. I offered to pay more rent because I feel so bad that they get criticized at all. They said yes, so now I’m paying twice as much because they’re such heroes and I’m just a lowly renter. All hail beautiful landlords.

Wtf

So many people forget to tip their landlords. It's not easy to look in the face of the single mom after doubling her rent 😔

Awe, boo hoo, did someone's no effort money machine get a spanner thrown in it. Whhhaaaa.

The "I've done nothing and deserve everything" crowd at it again

TIL parasitism is a talent.

There's some narrow slice where a "landlord" does something useful for money like maintaining the property. I don't want to deal with the plumbing or repainting.

But almost all of the time it's just taking money for nothing, or charging way more than that's worth. That's not admirable. So fuck them.

There is really nothing wrong with the idea of shelter as a service (i.e. renting a place to live). The problem is more with buildings as an investment, whether in the form of landlords or home owners living in their investment. NIMBYs are in large part caused by the latter to take just one negative example.

You are talking about property management, my friend. A "landlord" gets passive income by doing nothing at all; that's the point of it.

(Of course a landlord could also be a property manager, but almost none are.)

"championed" is slang for "luigi'd"?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 19 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I love how they throw out stuff like "Business owners and landlords should be championed" as though everyone already agrees with them.

My dude, you're gonna have to try and justify that claim.

[–] crmsnbleyd@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago

I wonder who they're talking to everyday if they think this is a commonly held idea

[–] solomon42069@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago

Landlords should be taxed and vilified regardless of whether they reside in Oblivion or plain old Nirn.

[–] Reddfugee42@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago

The talent of collecting money and keeping the power on. Wonder what degree they got for that.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago

Ah yes .. Those talented landlords...

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 13 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (3 children)

I thought championed someone meant send them into fights in our name...

[–] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I guess the modern version is simping, so this guy is a champion of landlords.

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 7 points 3 weeks ago

I can't learn english if it keeps changing along (^_^')

Can their colosseum fights be the ones against the lions with flimsy shields and shoddy weapons?

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, that's how it works: the ruling class sends the working class into wars to protect their interests.

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 8 points 3 weeks ago

Probably think they are entitled to a tip at the end of the year too.

[–] stinerman@midwest.social 7 points 3 weeks ago

Initially read the name as Callum McFuckery and that fit pretty well.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 5 points 3 weeks ago

Landlord. Talent. LOL!

How Britain almost solved the housing crisis

[–] OmegaLemmy@discuss.online 1 points 3 weeks ago

More people would work in places like London if rent was less, tall about adding nothing to society yet being able to prey more and more on it

Government housing seems to be the most peaceful solution where it forces the rent down providing great places to stay and gives a portion of the housing shares to the government which can now effectively regulate the real estate market
