Industrial metal is the feeling of chewing on aluminum foil

Ska would be mozzarella sticks with extra marinara sauce

[โ€“] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 18 points 4 weeks ago

Hip-hop is like special fried rice. All types of left over bits and pieces recooked and mixed together to make something new.

Chiptune: sour candy. It's artificial, it's energising as it is sour, and it reminds of childhood when computers were all about bloops and bleeps.

Metal is like cereal. There's a thousand varieties, its marketing has vibrant characters, and everyone has their favorite style

I think it's more like spicy food. Tons of different ways to make food spicy. It's generally a little more rough than other "easier" foods, and some people just can't handle it at all.

And of course, there's always going to be ultra-spicy food that will leave even fans of less-spicy food to wonder "Does anybody actually eat that for fun?"

Pop would be cotton candy. Eye catching, but no real substance.

Crust punk would be like drinking water steeped in an ashtray full of old cigarettes.

Rockabilly is Southern Fried. :)

Folk (thinking specifically John Prine, Todd Snider) is like one of those really fantastic casseroles your mom would make on Friday night, the type you ate until you wanted to burst, and felt safe and loved.

Left wing folk (Phil Ochs, et al) is like a vegan General Tso. You're sure you're going to be missing something, it can't be as good as the original, it has an agenda... But it turns out to be fucking amazing, and way better than the one with chicken

I feel like heavy metal would be like biting into a gumball and realizing it's a jawbreaker/gobstopper.

(Love the genre; just thought this description was funny)

experimental: pizza with candy toppings and savory sauces plus anchovies.

lo-fi chillhop: warm apple pie

drum and bass would be cocaine

showtunes are artsy themed handmade cakes

vaporwave is a half melted Icee (that you're still very much enjoying)

That's a good question. I can't think of it in genres but do certainly associate some musical sounds with flavors.

High pitched sounds are acidic, sour.

Low hum is boozy, or molasses flavor.

Harp strumming is like jellybeans somehow.

Barber beats are just a serving plate full of soft peppermint candies individually wrapped, but you can kinda see that the wrappings were just printed over old recycled wrappers of other candies.
