Lots of instances are purging their images to avoid risk of hosting CSAM. It's not syncs fault, the images are just gone.

I have an issue where clicking an image link shows a black screen, but long-pressing correctly displays the image (until I let go, anyway)
Probably related to many instances purging their local caches, which wipes out the thumbnails. Long pressing gets the full image from the original source
I'm having the same issue after the latest update. Older articles and pictures that were there previously are still showing, but new thumbnails for any image are black. If I long press, there's just a white loading wheel but nothing loads.

This has nothing to do with sync. A major instance was attacked by a childporn bot, and the images were federated to other instances. Since nobody wanted to review that crap manually, most instances deleted all pictures uploaded over a period of roughly 50h to purge the cp from their servers.
So yes, sync can't display some harmless pictures either, because they simply don't exist anymore.
My issue is that I'm trying to use an image website to help alleviate the load on my instance. But for whatever reason the preview only seems to load if an image has been uploaded directly to the instance. Has anyone used a site that doesn't have this issue?
