Tired of seeing the same old youtubers/twitch streamers get recommended/talked about all the time. Do you have some really good small time folks that are amazing?

I'm really into retro video games. The channel I enjoy that the most that has the least number of subscribers is Jeremy Parish. He makes excellent little 10 minute retro game reviews. They are well thought out, include some interesting history, and no hyperbole.

https://youtube.com/@JeremyParish

Ummm... I also have a channel. πŸ‘€ In some videos I do longer reviews of Game Boy games.

And I post weekly videos where I play random retro games with my silly friend Samantha.

...I wouldn't say it's "amazing" but I do really enjoy watching the videos I make. πŸ˜…

I don't follow many people on YouTube so the only person that meets this criteria is Gracie Fitzpeter, who really deserves more views. I absolutely love channels that do overlong in-depth videos on super niche topics that I have zero stake in. She has so many hours of videos on the Warrior Cats series and Resident Evil, and I've watched probably all of them. I've never read the Warrior Cats books or played Resident Evil. Perfect.

The first one I saw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFFjATF3I30

I love watching stuff like that! I'll have to watch some of their stuff!

I've been watching this guy's backlog on building a kernel and bootloader from scratch. A bit monotone but amazing technical knowledge. https://youtube.com/@nanobyte-dev

If you like laid back walking videos then ABitOfAWander

No wonder Americans say you need a car to go around. Looking at the videos you can get a sense of vastness and how lonely/deserted the place is.

Monocat. puts out very chill videos about EUC. Even if that is not your thing, it's worth your time getting some perspective on something that might make you look at things differently: https://youtu.be/1dBvELqWqOg

She helps her boyfriend with his channel so that's why her uploads are infrequent.

I actually recently sold my car and "upgraded" (to me) to an electric scooter! So hearing about electronic unicycles is right up my alley.

[–] atlasraven31@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Sweet, I ride an electric scooter too!

88bit does video game music, Aric Zair is a musician friend of mine who has been struggling, Aural Alliance is a Furry music label, Curtis Kam is a magician, Erin Snape is a young musician, Gavin Nascimento and Project Knowledge are conspiracy theorists, Hazy Rhythm Wonder Band exists, Holy Order of the Claw worships lobsters, mannfishh demonstrates microtonality, Nada makes art videos, Snazzy Starlight does synesthetic paintings, The Tuscany Documents does analog horror videos, and Tube Cody plays Rollercoaster Tycoon and Sims.

Chrontendo has been playing every NES/Famicom came in release order for over a decade. Slow upload schedule but quality content.

Pixelmusement main series is "Ancient DOS Games" and I was watching this series before he was on YouTube from his own site. Basically every episode (has over 300 now) is dedicated to a single game where he reviews is and tells you how to getting it run on DOSBox.

Shoujoago's Twitch streamer. She's an artist, female drag performer, and lover of cats. She plays obscure independent games she finds, draws stuff, sometimes has game nights, and hosts with her cat Marzipan. Huge Phoenix Wright fan. Usually has streams 2-3 times a week. Very calm and relaxed.

I've recently started watching Alice in Wonder1and . She's a trans girl from New Zealand, doing some form of memey content in some way related to trans or femboys. I personally find her content really entertaining.

I also like ParrotDash's content. He's the person who completes about every Celeste map ever deathless. Their content is more stream highlights, but is still entertaining.

My children.

Rick Darge is fantastic if you’re into high-quality, short form sketch comedy. Krazam has grown recently but is still relatively small and makes more tech-related sketches.

[–] deathbird@mander.xyz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Artisanalcheese is still around 4.4k.

Watch sips_ with me on Twitch! https://www.twitch.tv/sips_?sr=a

Joel Bocko, aka Lost in the Movies 8.84k subs on YouTube - particularly for those who like Twin Peaks but also for anyone who loves quality cinema, both popular and arthouse.

His work on Twin Peaks is magnificent, and deserves so much more attention than it gets. And he comes across as a really nice genuine, unassuming guy.

His website is https://www.lostinthemovies.com, with podcasts, interviews written pieces and more. Well worth a look.

I've been enjoying https://www.twitch.tv/moridrex he streams a variety of games, but I honestly love his banter most of the time. Very chill dude.

[–] BarrelAgedBoredom@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Art of Drink for anyone who's into craft cocktails, soft drinks, general food science. 10.8k subs but close enough. He's a treasure trove of knowledge, technique and reference materials for applying food science to drinks

[–] average650@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Rand118. Streams ftl.

Famous for lots of salt at ftl rng.

[–] TrustingZebra@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is he not very good at the game? Usually when people complain about FTL RNG they are new to the game or just bad. I mean no offense, I'm a bad player too but most FTL streamers I've seen can beat the game quite consistently.

[–] average650@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

No, he's very good. Has I think 24 ships in a row random no pause.

Just that kind of personality. It's something he tries to work on, do I find it kinda funny.

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago

Dawgstrip is pretty great, they do car mods and videos on the Gambler 500 when they go. They also do some travel vlogs sometimes as well.

It's a pretty fun channel

They have 10.5k subs though but I'd still recommend it.

Steamed Brocolli 69 (animations)

I found the channel from an animated dunkey video and it's been cool watching him develop his style in little clips since then.

Unresolved Textual Tension is a great YouTube / podcast for book reviews and/or roasts. Generally a mix of fantasy and sci-fi, largely newer stuff (The Locked Tomb, Murderbot, Kushiel) with some classics thrown in (Dune, Hyperion). The show features 3 people with great chemistry.
