This one doesn't, tho, unless you care how presentable the back of your pc is... And mine was for a few years just an array of parts and wires on the side of my desk, soooo...

Is that an I/O shield for a motherboard?

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 0 points 5 months ago

Yeah think so.

that one is merely cosmetic tho, no biggie.

Aint it necessary for grounding the ports?

[–] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 0 points 5 months ago

The ports should be grounded through the motherboard. The case should be grounded through contact with the PSU.

I've heard arguments it does some EMI shielding, which is probably technically correct, but with so many cases on the market having huge glass/clear plastic panels in their sides, leaving large gaping EMI holes, that doesn't seem to matter much.

That is what the screws are for.

Oddly enough i removed the one on my server because moving any cords plugged into the mobo caused the shield reset the computer.

I actually struggled to mount it the first time I built a PC, then I just rammed it in and it works.

Also the Intel CPU socket is actually supposed to make a worrying crunch when you press it down

Oof, that's another reason to buy AMD
