Very sad he was one of the best. The Exorcist is incredible. I still need to watch Sorcerer.

Sorcerer is my favorite film of his - incredibly tense!

French Connection has one of the greatest car chase scenes in film history. Popeye Doyle was a great bad ass cop with serious anger issues.

Every few years I return to French Connection, and the gritty realism, a lot of which was reportedly filmed without permits, guerrilla-style, blows me away every time. New Hollywood indeed!

Then there's the way the title cards and music set an incredible tone, grab you by the neck from the very get-go. This must have been astonishing in 1971. Hell... it won the Oscar for Best Film!

I don't care what everyone says: Killer Joe was one of the best films of that year and is incredibly funny.
