Stepping in if you're in the US means a good chance of being shot.

If anything sketchy is going on anywhere I immediately leave (and call the cops if something is bad enough), and I don't hang around to get shot by the cops.

Note that they mentioned “pay phone”. That was a time pre getting shot over nothing. The good old days.

No, they definitely didn’t exist like they do today. Always existed but not nearly at the same frequency.

They did, actually. They mentioned both the police and the abuser. Still no mention of mass shootings, though.
