Facebook is banning posts that mention various Linux-related topics, sites, or groups. Some users may also see their accounts locked or limited when posting Linux topics. Major open-source operating system news, reviews, and discussion site DistroWatch is at the center of the controversy, as it seems to be the first to have noticed that Facebook's Community Standards had blackballed it.

[...]

DistroWatch says that the Facebook ban took effect on January 19. Readers have reported difficulty posting links to the site on this social media platform. Moreover, some have told DistroWatch that their Facebook accounts have been locked or limited after sharing posts mentioning Linux topics.

If you're wondering if there might be something specific to DistroWatch.com, something on the site that the owners/operators perhaps don't even know about, for example, then it seems pretty safe to rule out such a possibility. Reports show that "multiple groups associated with Linux and Linux discussions have either been shut down or had many of their posts removed." However, we tested a few other Facebook posts with mentions of Linux, and they didn't get blocked immediately.

Summary

Trump plans to impose tariffs of up to 100% on semiconductors manufactured in Taiwan, aiming to push U.S. tech companies like Apple, Nvidia, and AMD to produce chips domestically.

The tariffs target Taiwan's TSMC, a key supplier, despite its partial U.S. production in Arizona.

Trump criticized Biden’s CHIPS Act for funding companies like Intel and proposed tariffs as an alternative incentive.

Experts warn the move could raise prices for electronics as most TSMC chips are assembled in Asia before export to the U.S.

Google agreed to release Pebble OS to the public. As of Monday, all the Pebble firmware is available on GitHub, and Migicovsky is starting a company to pick up where he left off.

The company — which can’t be named Pebble because Google still owns that — doesn’t have a name yet. For now, Migicovsky is hosting a waitlist and news signup at a website called RePebble. Later this year, once the company has a name and access to all that Pebble software, the plan is to start shipping new wearables that look, feel, and work like the Pebbles of old.

Full disclosure on Friday night my brother chill-left showed me this conversation and I believe it is worth sharing.

"Teia Rabishu" has been the top mod of antiwork since the massive scandal of a moderator appearing on Tucker Carlson who spoke about their part time job as a dogwalker. She appears not to understand the concept of the Overton window. Her defense of the decision to ban, "Platforms affiliated with the CCP, such as TikTok and Rednote, because China is a hostile foreign government and these platforms constitute information warfare." despite the opposition of the moderators and users of the sub is suspicious, unethical, and totalitarian. In typical "dictator fashion", her entire stance seems to be "china bad" and she constantly argues via logical fallacies. Not only this but, "Caledric" from the beginning of being a moderator for antiwork openly admits to working for US intelligence and expresses sympathy as well as agreement to their ideological framing and conclusions. "Teia" defends and supports "Caledric" as well as upholds the ideological anti-communism and red scare propaganda which led to this entire debacle.

This document and photos where leaked by u/chill-left before he was banned from the anti-work subreddit. He was a moderator dissenting within their internal communication discord. The supposed reason for his ban was calling for democratic elections to replace the head moderator of the antiwork subreddit. As well as disagreeing with "Teia Rabishu".

Please share this with any interested individuals or parties, especially anyone associated with antiwork.

NEW YORK, Jan 25 (Reuters) - U.S. TikTok users who once saw the app as a haven for free speech say they see signs of censorship after the platform, which is owned by China's ByteDance, was revived by an executive order from President Donald Trump.

"Our policies and algorithms did not change over the weekend," TikTok said in a statement to Reuters. "We are working hard to restore our U.S. operations back to normal and expect some temporary instability as we restore our services, which could impact TikTok features or users' access to the app."

But some users said they now see more content moderation, like limited search results, as well as warnings about misinformation and prompts for users to check their sources.

Some claimed TikTok was striking comments that used phrases like "Free Palestine" and "Free Luigi," a reference to Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing a UnitedHealth executive, which had been previously allowed. TikTok said it does not allow content that promotes violent or hateful individuals on the platform.

Jan 24 (Reuters) - Mastercard and Visa failed to stop their payment networks from laundering proceeds from child sexual abuse material and sex trafficking on the popular website OnlyFans, according to allegations in a previously undisclosed whistleblower complaint filed with the U.S. Treasury’s financial crimes unit.

The whistleblower, a senior compliance expert in the credit card and banking industries, said the two giant card companies knew their networks were being used to pay for illegal content on the porn-driven site since at least 2021, and accused them of “turning a blind eye to flows of illicit revenue.”

The complaint was filed in January 2023 with the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the U.S. Justice and Homeland Security departments, the whistleblower said.

The complaint said that the whistleblower and other anti-trafficking experts, including U.S. federal agents, alerted Visa and Mastercard to unlawful content on OnlyFans in a series of calls in 2021 and 2022. The federal agents corroborated the presence of child sexual abuse material on OnlyFans, the complaint said.
