People love to hate AI, but I think it's one of the most human inventions ever. The majority of my internal human experience already runs on autopilot.

The life-critical tasks have been outsourced to various biological systems.

My heart beats 24/7 without conscious effort, thanks to the cardiovascular system. Digestion? Handled seamlessly by another system. Breathing? Autopilot. I don’t have to remind myself to inhale and exhale. It just happens.

Even many of my own thoughts seem to appear out of nowhere—emerging from my subconscious or triggered by something around me.

Is it any wonder that, in one way or another, all human technologies strive to replicate this internal 'automation' in the external world?

To me, it’s a beautiful—if ultimately futile—attempt to harmonize our inner and outer realities.

Per the title, is Lemmy actually growing, or will it stagnate and fade into obscurity like many other similar discussion boards?

Hi everyone!

I wish i could translate whole web-blog and all articles in it to my own language , then download it as Single (or few) HTML file's with pictures and etc.

For example this one: https://digital-cleaning.de/

If there any tool wich can allow me to do so?

Of course, i can visit each page separately, use translator and then copy-paste it, but maybe there any way to automate it? I used SinglePage addon for Firefox and edited code, but too routine 🥲

Thanks

Would love to hear some recommendations especially if they are available in Canada. I've been chewing a lot of whatever the green and blue version of 5 gum is lately. 5 released a caffeinated version of their gum called respawn but I don't think it was ever sold in Canada.

I had a discussion recently with someone about this. Since we don’t really celebrated our birthdays we weren’t sure what’s “normal “.

Sorry if this is controversial, but I've heard some people saying (title) and that it's ironic that after the American government tried so hard to ban the little red book of the cultural revolution from being in everyone's pockets, now it is in everyone's pockets again in the form of an app on their phones.

I'm sure the first thing people will say is, it's a social media app similar to TikTok, which is why Americans are flocking to it in the wake of (and in anticipation of) TikTok's ban for reasons related to CCP interference. It's not literally the writings of Mao Zedong, in any way. But I think it's more of a symbolic idea of what it represents. It's also very interesting that the first choice of an app to replace TikTok was one that seems even more closely associated with China than TikTok is; I wonder if Red Note actually takes off in America that it will be banned as well otherwise it may have just replaced the perceived problem with another one.

There's a lot more of these videos at https://www.reddit.com/r/TikTokCringe/ Despite its name, it's not cringe at all, more rage.

All I hear about is "boomers" this, "Millennials" that, "Gen Z" that, etc.

Why no one talk about Gen X? What happened to them? They just vanished like in Infinity War? Or are we mistaken Gen Z by Boomers?

So I'm 20 and I've started looking at the salaries of jobs/careers, and this is the impression I've gotten. Like that you could spend years cramming a ton of knowledge about a very niche field, and still only get 2-3x what a run-of-the-mill job makes. Is this true? If yes then I guess this route to wealth would only make sense (due to the diminishing returns) if the topic truly spoke to you, right? Are there alternative career paths to good pay than being really good at something really specific?

I think both have their advantages and drawbacks.

For me I passed my test and on the first day nearly tipped the forklift. I still feel bad about it.

As a kid, I learned to “pause” my true self. School was the pause, and my hobbies, dreams, and passions were the unpause—something I’d rush back to during lunch or after class.

Over time, the pauses got longer. Tiredness and responsibilities crept in, leaving little energy to unpause at the end of some days.

At work, sometimes the pressure and the demands were so relentless that I couldn’t unpause for weeks or months at a time.

Then came marriage, fatherhood, and the joy—and work—of raising a child.

I want my son to get to know the real me but I worry that by the time he is grown I won’t have any “self” to unpause to.

built this tool that generates custom emoticons. It’s pretty fun to use, but I feel like it could be better. Since you guys are brutally honest (and creative), I figured this is the best place to ask: What features should I add? Anything annoying or clunky about it? Any cool ideas to make it stand out? Let me know your thoughts. Rip it apart if you have to—just want to make it as good as possible. Site name: EmoticonHub

For example:

  • You can fly but you can never stop flying
  • You can turn invisible, but never be seen again

Let's say that you have an opportunity to gain billions to fix the society from the top. Do you think that you would keep your integrity and use your money for the greater good, or that you would be corrupted by your power?

If so, would you still accept the offer knowing that you would just make the situation worse?

And if you believe in yourself, how would you try to convince an hypotetical entity to give you this wealth?

To avoid regrets let's say that if you decline the offer your memory about the deal gets erased.

For example : Megadeaths happen with nary an eye batted in Japanese movies, but you rarely see that kind of thing in the American. And the total dominance of the aristocracy over the underclasses is as assumed and invisible as gravity in French movies, but it seems to be taboo elsewhere.
