Kelvin mostly seems to be used to measure unimaginably hot (like ovens, metal forges, stars) or unimaginably cold (e.g. planets beyond Mars) things, Fahrenheit still exists only because the US Congress was lazy (though as an American I do find it somewhat useful for comparing weather and Earth’s climate zones in finer detail than just -1 in winter and 28 in summer), and I’ve never heard of that last one.

The Moon’s daytime is half a month long and can reach 120 C so we’d need some pretty powerful heat shielding. And there’s no ozone layer to protect the electronics from radiation, and I’m pretty sure the Moon orbits outside of Earth’s magnetosphere. And the shielding used for such a project could also be used to fix climate change here (and terraform Venus later) with orbital parasols. And whatever unimaginable technology we’d need for such an ambitious project may as well be used to run a grid of electromagnets and power lines across Mars to give it a magnetic field

I hope we can build one that can use hydrogen fusion like the sun; such an energy source would make an excellent power source, even if small

I mostly play CS1 with mods (but very infrequently), and now it seems I’ll stick to that for the time being

And they don’t even censor the right people. They have these algorithms that keep on recommending videos designed to teach preteens that it’s “based” to:

  • be cartoonishly homophobic to the point that gays live in your head rent free
  • support the war in Ukraine because it hates gays slightly less than Russia does
  • feel entitled to sex, getting mad when a guy of another ethnicity successfully hits on their crush because they never made a move

Which then ends with them joining and donating family funds that aren’t theirs to Andrew Tate’s little incel cult, blasting the soviet anthem on the bus and then getting mad when nobody laughs and/or with gay kids bullied to the point of suicide.

So… basically, all this time I’ve been using what started out as an alt-left version of Truth Social?

While this does explain a LOT, I’m still gonna keep using Lemmy since a lot of good has definitely come out of it too (think the antique memes, c/nostupidquestions and the one-user art c/‘s), and unlike Reddit it’s open-source, so even the corrupt programmers lack complete control over it; every instance is merely a reflection of the person who made it. And at least .world has somewhat saner people, which is probably why its native user accounts outnumber ml ones nearly 4:1. What are they gonna do, double-block this community from ml?

America 200 years ago: Steal land from native peoples and then kill, sterilize and oppress them, putting their children in concentration camps where they’re forced to give up their religions, languages and cultures

Lemmy devs: THEY’RE STILL EVIL! FASCIST THIS FASCIST THAT!!! AAAAAAH I HATE MY COUNTRY SO MUCH WE ARE SO GENOCIDAL AND RACIST! HOW MANY RUSSIAN AND CHINESE DICKS SHOULD I SUCK TO ATONE FOR THIS?

China today: Steal land from native peoples and then kill, sterilize and oppress them, putting their children in concentration camps where they’re forced to give up their religions, languages and cultures

Lemmy devs: UNBELIEVABLY BASED!

Burgerland? Wow, this is just sad. That person probably doesn’t go outside often. Good thing that unlike the site that must not be named, this is FOSS so it’s a lot harder for them to ban the /c’s outside of ml and lemmygrad they disagree with unlike the tankie admins on that site.
