Thread to discuss webbrowsers, important utilities, and apps that we have forgotten about previously but cannot live without. In short , all apps you want to see on the final megathread.

Next week, I will open a thread to discuss some details and thoughts with the entire community to build the megathread.

Previsouly discussions

Discussion about Contacts, SMS and Dialers app is here.

Discussion about Calculators, Cameras and Calendars apps is here.

Discussion about Manager files, Recorders, Galleries and Video editors apps is here.

Discussion about Keyboards, Notes, Maps and Music Players apps is here

Discussion about Weather, Stores, social media and related stuff apps is here

Little context

spoilerWhy not build a megathread with the best and most reliable FOSS apps too help someone who want to join on the bright side of open source?

We (because this is not from me, this is from us) need to share thoughts, ideas and all things you want to say. Dont be shy. Upvote the comments you like and agree; disagree and tell why you disagree. This is will be different from others threads because this need a proper user opinion, and your opinions will be VERY important to build this. In short, your opinions and thoughts will be the fundamental source to build this.

I will read ALL comments to build this. Even if this has a million comments, Iโ€™m going to waste time reading it. Whatever it takes.

Your opinions about it are CRUCIAL and FUNDAMENTAL, because your opinions is the main-base to build the megathread.

Ladybird is an ongoing project to build an independent web browser from scratch.

It is being developed as part of the SerenityOS/serenity project on GitHub.

There are no downloadable binaries yet, as the project is still very unstable. You can follow the build instructions to build it for yourself.

This page is not fancy because we are focusing on building the browser. :^)

Since Ladybird is part of the SerenityOS project, development is coordinated on the SerenityOS discord server.

Hi all ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm looking for some help locating large packs/collections of crossword puzzles for use with the Shortyz/Forkyz Android app (.puz, .json etc) pretty please (sob story below if you're interested). I promise I'm not trying to be lazy (though it's possible, as my mum would say, that I'm having a boy's look), but I've looked around on archive.org, all my usual pirate sources, Forkyz list of sources, and ofc Google, and come up I feel surprisingly empty. I've found a couple of packs of the NYT crosswords, which will work, but I'm hoping I can find some to ease her in to because she's used to doing the ones in our local news rag which don't quite match up to the NYT.

Anyway, thank you in advance to everyone ๐Ÿ’™

<sob-story> Dad's in palliative care and my step-mum is getting a bit bored with her Sudoku puzzles, which of course I've had no trouble providing lol. </sob-story>

Found it more stable and the UI looks a little better, imo.

Hey there, I'm looking to create a simple ~10 second deepfake video. It doesn't have to look convincingly real. What's the best way to do this? I'd love to do this for free, but I know that running AI is very expensive. I could selfhost, but I don't have a very powerful computer (Ryzen 3 3200G, RX 580 8GB, 16GB Ram) Let me know if you have any suggestions

Edit: I get that this community might not be the biggest fan of AI crap, believe me, I'm not either, but I think an animated historical non-political figure could be a good addition to my current school project. I of course am not using this to spread misinformation on the internet. That's also why it doesn't have to look good

I threw together a rust client for lemmy to play a similar role to the lemmy-js-client.

Hi all, looking for good open (self hosted) money management apps. Similar to mint, I want a single pane to view my accounts at a high level.

There's some things online that still do it, but they make me really nervous just handing one company the keys to all of my accounts with how many breaches there are. That being said, they're convenient because I never know what accounts have what balances all at once.

Any ideas for systems that do this? Either running locally or ideally something that I could host locally?

Stract is an open source search engine where the user has the ability to see exactly what is going on and customize almost everything about their search results. It's a search engine made for hackers and tinkerers just like ourselves. No more searches where some of the terms in the query arent used, and the engine tries to guess what you really meant. You get what you search for.

A smoother stream, bug fixes and extra features are here for chiaki4deck, the open source Playstation Remote Play client for Steam Deck in the latest release. No need to stop your gaming just because someone wants the TV, if you have both a Steam Deck and PlayStation 4 or 5 then this project is for you. Allowing you to sync up your gaming and play your PS titles on Valve's handheld.

I was looking for a non-chromium alternative browser to Firefox and found mercury. According to this site it is one of the fastest Firefox forks and also has optimizations from other well known forks like librewolf.
