I agree with you there, it’s probably not necessary. I do alum followed by a balm and then finished off with an alcohol based splash. If someone didn’t want to use alcohol, they could probably just substitute Thayer’s witch hazel there.
- Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz - Tabac Soap
- Brush: Proraso - Professional (Boar)
- Razor: Gillette - Slim Adjustable
- Blade: Feather
- Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - Unscented - Balm & Splash
Quick shave before I leave town. After the tough shave I had with the Slim the other day it was a bit of a risk, but I decided to go with the Feather because they are tHE shArPeST, and got a better shave with it. I’ll be rocking my SEs when I’m out of town, because I don’t want to risk things as much.
I use a boar hair brush most of the time, and I’ve found that CosmoBarber’s Precision Loading Method works wonders. Just be sure to give the boar a good soak (at least 5 minutes but I sometimes do 15-30) beforehand.

Love it when SOTDs include music.
What do you think of it? The reviews panned it.
Let’s see how many times I can use this software before I get bored and switch things up.
This is the way.
The server rules (which I based on the subreddit rules) say that people are welcome to make any communities that are related to traditional wet shaving. So people are welcome to make communities for DEs or SRs or House of Mammoth or whatever, but I plan on keeping !WetShaving as the main sub, basically the same as it is on Reddit.
- Lather: House of Mammoth - Shire Soap
- Brush: Zenith - MOAR BOAR
- Razor: Gillette - Slim Adjustable
- Blade: Gillette - Silver Blue
- Osma: Osma - Osma
- Splash: House of Mammoth - Shire
- Balm: Stirling Soap Co. - Unscented
- Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery - G20
I had a great shave yesterday with the Slim Adjustable, but today’s was awful. Yesterday I was impressed with how efficient it was on 9, today on both 7 and 9 I was left with quite a bit of discomfort. I was going to use this on my trip, but now I’m rethinking that.
Thanks for calling this to my attention.
Exactly. Lemmy and Mastodon all operate under the activitypub protocol, so they can see each other’s content, but display it in different ways.
On Mastodon, check out @wetshaving@sub.WetShaving.social. You’ll see it’s a Mastodon feed of all the posts to that Lemmy community. You can also check out a specific user, so @souleater7173@sub.WetShaving.social will be all your Lemmy posts.
The thing is that they don’t play nice together. So yesterday I tried tagging one of the Lemmy communities’ Mastodon account in a Mastodon post, and it created a post on Lemmy that was the text of my Mastodon post.
So not perfect, but it is another way to watch what’s going on.
Frankly, I haven’t missed it. The Lemmy keeps me busy (you all almost woke up to 10,000 Tuesday SOTD posts this morning, good thing I caught that bug at midnight last night), and I have the Mastodon. Everything else on Reddit I was doing was just random mindless scrolling.
Agreed! Top tier base.
