Ok, that's interesting. I guess the only thing is that there are no 7 years old framework laptops. But if the company actually survives 7 years I agree it will be a more upgradable laptop.

I don't get your point. Isn't it obvious that you should be comparing 7 year old Dell to 7 years old framework laptop and new Dell to new framework? What does you comparing old Dell to new framework prove?

Is it really more modular than a ThinkPad or even professional Dell? I have an old Dell and finding replacement keyboard for it on ebay was cheap and easy. Same with battery. Changing keybaord/cpu/RAM is super easy, you can do it yourself. Bonus is that parts will be available for a very long time, there are many providers and surplus stock. Framework is nice but can you really be sure that in 5 years you will still be able to find parts easily?

It's a bit more complicated. Only some specific tribes consider this a slur. Other tribes do not. There's nothing offensive in the term itself (it's not pejorative) so it's more about using one term for different tribes that don't consider themselves to be members of the same group.

We do understand capitalism. How do we dismantle it?

Privacy data != "can be used for ads". Privacy is about personal info, info that can be used to identify you personally. So yes, none of this data is personal but not because of ads but because none of it is tied to an individual. Only IP is problematic here but the rest of data is not very sensitive anyway.

At this point YT is more like TV: you make some content, YT uses it to show ads, you get part of the profits. If you just want to share some content with people there are many ways to do it. If you want earn money doing it there's really just the ad supported big social networks. Open source solutions have their uses but can't really compete with YT.

OK, it's just not what enshitification means. I don't like the term but if you're using it wrong it's just confusing.

Did LastPass do anything besides charge for it service?

[–] ExLisper@linux.community 2 points 1 year ago

You're right. Interesting. I guess the huge amount of data they get form it helps them with the rest of their ad business.

Maybe they want to start pushing ads harder and are afraid that more people will discover ad blockers? Once people switch it may be harder to bring them back. So you first close all the exists and than start increasing ads per minute. Because where will everyone go? There's no where else. Ad blockers are the only option really.

From a quick ddg it does. YT makes around 20 billion a year in ad revenue.
