  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Karve Overlander
  • Blade: Sharp Durablade [1]
  • Lather: Macduffs - Wild Rose Country - Soap
  • Post Shave: Macduffs - Wild Rose Country - Aftershave

Good shave today. This is a warm spicy rose type scent that usually stays very strong all day.

Weather is slightly nicer today, should be unseasonably warm next week if the tv people are correct.

My SOTW: (am beard, and I typically shave my neck once a week)

  • Phoenix copper DOC razor
  • fougère gothique soap and splash
  • Yaqi rainbow synthetic brush
  • Phoenix travel scuttle

I have settled on a two pass shave; three pass was too much for my skin when I shaved daily before the beard, and I never tried adding the third pass when I bearded. WTG neck and cheeks, xtg cheeks and a slanted xtg/atg hybrid on my neck to get just a bit closer.

On off days I use FG odp to maintain odor continuity.

I've tried lots of scents and this one floored me, I am now on my second soap and third splash of FG after ~3 years of shaving 1-5 times per week. It is officially my official scent, I hope they keep making it but have a stash for the next few years if they don't.

I forgot to mention Gillette blades! My faves are KCG but they're stupid expensive so I usually get silver blues or nacets.

Friday, January 19, 2024: The Microcrack of Death

Since @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social had the great idea of using Haslinger today, I felt compelled to join him. My Ringelblume now serves as (reasonably decent) handsoap, so I took Schafmilch. A very nice base, with a not so great scent (there just isn't any). I'm not there yet for the ring of death, but that shouldn't be long anymore: I already have the microcrack of death.

Have a good evening!

  • Brush: Zenith B8 (XL aluminium handle, 28 mm × 57 mm boar)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 14 (8/8", extra hollow ground, stainless steel)
  • Lather: Haslinger Ringelblume
  • Aftershave: House of Mammoth Santa~~l~~ Noir
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Spiced
  • Talc: Pinaud Clubman Finest Powder

Recent SOTDs by @PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social made me remember my stash of Haslinger soaps. There's nothing really wrong with the soap itself, and they make a serviceable lather, but the tiny tubs mean that the soap is difficult to load with a regular sized brush. I've copied the solution to this problem from @Semaj3000@wetshaving.social , and use them like a shave stick, just rubbing the puck over my face.

How do you find this one? From the 3 I have, I find Ringelblume extremely drying - which is a shame, because I like the scent.

[–] djundjila 4 points 10 months ago

I don't know about drying. I may have insensitive skin though.

  • Brush: AP Shave Co. - 24mm Synbad Fan
  • Razor: Wolfman Guerilla (Gen 1)
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (1)
  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Gearhead - Soap
  • Post Shave: Brut - Splash On
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth/Declaration Grooming - Cerberus - Liniment
  • Fragrance: Summer Break Soaps - Woodshop - EdP

Not a Fougere in sight. I love fougeres, but I felt like Gearhead today. It did not disappoint. I love the CFG base. I think a lot of people probably under-load it, because it makes a good-enough lather with very little soap. When you load a lot and give it lots of water, though... good stuff.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Terrific shave today. I was not feeling in the mood for a fougère and could not be happier with my pick of Hallows for the day. The Frio 14 was silky smooth as always. This is a very enjoyable razor and I'm happy to have it in my collection.
