I played it two days ago and can't get it out of my head. I absolutely love the premise and it truly feels like a dark fantasy.

Combat was really fun and voice acting was super solid. I was really excited about the game before but now I am fully on board.

What are your impressions?

I had a good feeling about it since Yoshi-P is involved, but the demo still impressed me anyway. Fun to play, just enough story to get me hooked, and actually quite a meatier demo than I was expecting. I thought the Eikonic Challenge would just be a bit of combat demo to follow the story demo, but then it turned out to be even more story! And I actually quite like the Devil May Cry-style gameplay, even though I never played it (but I did play Bayonetta, which is close enough). I've always been a staunch turn-based RPG fan but some of these recent FF games have been pleasantly surprising me. Stranger of Paradise came out of left field for me, for example, and I thought it was stupid at first, but I ended up really enjoying it.

Can't wait for June 22!

Wait, YoshiP of FFXIV is involved? 👀

Absolutely! And it's likely that a crossover event will happen in the not-so-distant future: https://www.siliconera.com/yoshi-p-might-consider-ffxvi-and-ffxiv-crossover/

Finished the demo and I agree with most of the praise for the game so far. I'll be picking it up for sure. Combat was a lot of fun and a big improvement over 7R. The music was top tier, but FF games always seem to be great in that regard.

I'll just probably wait for a few patches to roll out first.

The demo felt like it had some serious performance issues. Graphics mode worked well but I don't know if I'd like playing such a fast paced game at 30 fps. An option to turn down the excessive motion blur would be appreciated too. The performance mode was just a mess. I feel like this game would be a prime candidate for a 40fps/120hz mode.

I can agree on the performance dipping quite a bit in traversal. Locking it to 40 would make the most sense with the current performance but I hope we can get a bit more squeezed out before the launch!

I saw a video where a guy was a parry master beating the crap out of some monster

I love anything that supports parries so I guess I’m off to buy a PS5

I haven't played it myself yet but I watched the cutscenes and they were the most over-the-top, edgy GOT story beats I've seen in a while. Just did not vibe with the tone at all. The idea that the game is meant to be "adult" when games like Yakuza 7 tell extremely adult stories without characters yelling "cock." Big "this ain't your DADDY'S final fantasy" vibes that just made me cringe.

I'm gonna get it because I treat games like artifacts of anthropological study but Im not looking forward to the narrative so far - couple that with CBU3s terrible track record with women and the fact that the only dark skinned characters are a clear middle eastern, turban wearing parallel lol.

I call it Shadow the Hedgehog storytelling, when it’s “adult” from a kid’s perspective, but ends up looking even more childlike.

Meanwhile, genuinely mature stories actually kind of seek out some of that childlike wonder because they’re jaded by the realities of adult life

I used to love FF games back in the day, but haven't paid much attention since 12. Watched Cohh play 16's demo and I was blown away. I keep telling everyone how amazing it looks. I won't bug a PS5 but I'll absolutely buy it when it lands on PC.

Greatest demo of all time imo. That demo does more in it's short 2 hours to make me care about it's characters than majority of games I've ever played.

I agree with everything you said. I absolutely loved it and can't wait for the actual release. I will say, I did find it incredibly easy though especially the dodging attacks. I'm hoping that's just because it was the opening to the game and a bit of a tutorial.
