  • Brush: L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic
  • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
  • Blade: Derby Premium (1)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Tobacconist - Soap
  • Post Shave: Razorock - Puros - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Eufros - Dama Noche - Balm
  • Fragrance: Cross/Cut - Warm Woods - EdT

It's been a while since using a Derby. This was a Derby Premium. My notes say they do shave differently than other Derby's, but they still fall into the "love them or hate them" category. I happen to like them a lot, but on the first stroke I thought "yeah, I can see why people might not like these". They are a bit tuggy. I've always enjoyed mild blades. They tend to shave me closer and are nicer to my skin.

Twenty-eighth Day of TabOKtoberfest

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Tabak Oridjinal
  • Razor: Wade & Butcher The Celebrated Hollow Ground (5/8", new horn scales)
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

It's already the last weekend of TabOKtoberfest. How time flies....

Easy afternoon shave with the W&B Celebrated Hollow Ground. I don't know how else to describe it, but both my W&Bs (the other one is a Celebrated Fine India Steel wedge) have this "soft" edge feeling to them. Very pleasant.

I've also found a moment to hone my unnumbered Frio 8/8 today (it also got also new scales yesterday), and I'm looking forward to trying it tomorrow.

Stank ++;

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Today is the debut of my Friodur 14. I was convinced that these are unobtainium but @djundjila directed me to this one. The razor arrived late yesterday. I did not bother with the shave-ready edge and decided to put my own synthetic edge on this one. There are some folks out there in forum land who complain about using stainless steel for razors. The finished edge on this 14 looks slightly different than the finished edge on u/oswald_heist's carbon steel Ralf Aust, but they aren't different by much, and they tested equally sharp. This razor has that distinctive "14" feel like my Fili 14 and my Koraat 14-2.0 so, to me, stainless steel only has benefits.

Hiatus has a not-too-sweet piña colada scent. Pretty glorious on a 80°F (27°C) day here in Maryland, USA. And it is in Wholly Kaw's Crème Fraîche soap base which, for me, is top-tier.

Enjoy your weekend!

My car said 81F, but my weather station topped out at 77F. Either way, too hot up here in CT!

too hot up here in CT!

The mosquitos are still happily feasting while I hike around looking at fall colors. And some of the trees, here, don't quite know whether it is time to change, or not.

Yayy, it arrived!

Frio 15;

Is it in as good a condition as it seemed in the pictures?

[–] gcgallant 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It is in very good condition. Not as pristine as yours. It has seen more honing. The geometry is good, though, and that’s all I need. Very happy with this one. Definitely a keeper.
