Oct 20, 2023 - Old Strathcona

  • Prep: Klar - Activated Charcoal - Face Soap
  • Brush: Brochas El Druida/House of Mammoth Tobacconist Chisel & Hound v8 Fanchurian
  • Razor: Mühle Rocca R94
  • Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless (Green) [2]
  • Lather: MacDuffs Soap Company - Old Strathcona - Soap
  • Post Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - Druantia - Aftershave (Alcohol Free)

Old Strathcona is one of my favorite Autumn scents. It's a bit of an odd fit into the fougère category, but it still works brilliantly.

Happy #fougerefriday!

Twentieth Day of TabOKtoberfest

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Tabak Oridjinal
  • Razor: Friodur 72-V (13/16", quarter hollow or near wedge, stainless steel)
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

A rough night got in the way of my morning shave. We were watching a neighbor's toddler while her parents were at the hospital for the birth of their next kid. This was her first night spent without her parents, and in a different house to boot. It went about as well as could be expected. I had flashbacks of when Djunior was a baby and had night terrors, and I'd sit on the couch for hours on end with a half-asleep bundle of fear not wanting to go back to bed. At least it meant I was awake during prime discord hours and could catch up on important wetshaving business with one eye on the phone😅

I managed to sneak the time for a shave and shower over lunch break and I feel almost human again.

Stank ++;

Oof. You're a good friend for doing that. Hope the birth is going/went well!

[–] djundjila 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it all went well and more importantly quickly😅 We were worried we'd have her for a second night 😱

Excellent lather from APR this morning. I loaded a ton of soap and it was so slick and creamy.

  • Preshave: Proraso Green Preshave
  • Brush: Zenith 506U XS Horse 🐎
  • Razor: Thiers-Issard 188 7/8 ""Coq et Renard""
  • Lather: Zingari Man Mousse Illuminée
  • Post Shave: Mennen Le Grand Large
  • Post Shave: Nivea After Shave Balm

I wouldn't want to shave every day with Mousse Illuminée, but when I do, it's one of the great things in life. Happyness ensued.

The lather was in the runny side, but everything went well.

Have a good evening!

  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Karve Overlander
  • Blade: Personna Platinum
  • Lather: House Of Mammoth - Sonder - Soap
  • Post Shave: House Of Mammoth - Sonder - Aftershave

Ok shave. Not as close as usual but it still looks ok. Good scent with a nice shot of menthol.

@visceralwatch@sub.wetshaving.social 's overlander shaved me nice and close when I was borrowing it. I don't think I tried it with a Personna Platinum, though.

Edit: apparently that's not his account.

I don't think he's on Lemmy.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was my first use of Hallows and my first use of my new Wolfman WR4. Hallows is just so damn good I kind of forgot that I was using a new razor; and the razor is exceptional.

All I can say about Hallows is that I think I like it better than Leviathan and Leviathan is the only tub of soap that I have killed so far, and I have ~~about 100~~ too many soaps in my rotation.

I place an order for the WR4 after using the prototype which u/VisceralWatch was kind enough to lend me. My shave quality was excellent, and this razor is just extremely easy to use. I'll try a Feather Professional in it tomorrow.

The WR4 is intriguing. Great picture!

[–] gcgallant 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thank you! (on the photo)

I like to support the artisans. I can't imagine that there's much of a market for new artist club razors. I have a Vector also and like that. While the design of the Vector is clever, the squared off mounting screw is just asking to have threads stripped, and there's nowhere for lather to accumulate. The WR4 is more conventional. It has good edge feel and enough gap so that I can control the angle.

[–] djundjila 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

the design of the Vector is too clever

Fixed that for you😉

The squared-of screws on the AC and GEM blacklands are pretty much why I have no interest in any blackland razors. I like pretty, but form over function drives me nuts

I like pretty, but form over function drives me nuts

Then there is the practicality of lather management. There's really nothing to catch lather on a Vector. I have to rinse too frequently (or become less particular about mess).

A difficult choice!
