Oct 16, 2023 - Mammoth Milksteak Monday: Cerberus

Spectacular shave after three days of growth. Cerberus never disappoints.

Rating: 5/5

Cerberus is so good! I'm still bitter I didn't buy the splash and edp, only the soap😅

Sixteenth Day of TabOKtoberfest - Midway Point edition

  • Brush: Mühle Travel Brush
  • Razor: Thiers Issard Le Dandy
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

Halfway through TabOKtoberfest and Stanksgiving is nigh. Modern Thiers Issards have the reputation of having geometry issues, but this Dandy spent a few minutes on my finishing stone and its edge is now a singing joy to use. The shank is a bit on the thin side, which gives me a feeling of reduced control, which is a small nit I'm picking with this design.

Anyway, it's good to be home with the full-sized Tabac software range, full-size strop, and full-size bathroom. Have a great week, friends!

full-size strop

What are you using for a travel strop? I’ve traveled with one of my bench strops, a full-size strop, and no strop (current trip) where I thought I’d be clever and use denim from jeans. I won’t use the denim approach again.

Edit: Stank++; // I note that tomorrow is Tuesday and I’ll be back from my trip.

What are you using for a travel strop?

I'm using this soft little 5 cm wide strop. It's supple and cheap enough that I don't worry about folding the leather. I have travelled with full size strops before, but this is not a bad alternative.

OK. Thanks! Tony Miller (Heirloom Razor Strop Co.) is here in MD. I think I'll contact him and see if he will make me a travel strop similar to yours.

  • Prep: hot shower
  • Brush: Yaqi Cashmere Synthetic Shaving Brush, Dandelion Green Handle, 24mm
  • Razor: Gillette Aristocrat (1948-50)
  • Blade: Lord Super Chrome (3)
  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag - Shaving Soap
  • Post Shave: Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag - Aftershave Balm

I don't know if anyone else gets this, but when first applied, the Stag balm burns my skin a little. It goes away after a minute or two, and then it feels great. But during that time it's an interesting combination of burning + moisturizing.

[–] djundjila 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is it an an immediate burn like an alcohol sting, or does it build up slowly like a chemical burn/A&E soap?

[–] spj_hook 2 points 1 year ago

It’s pretty immediate, but it fades away after just a minute or two. Because of the scent though, it kinda feels appropriate that it should burn, I just don’t usually get that from a balm and wondering if anyone else gets it too.

Late afternoon shave. I almost considered breaking my daily shaving streak today, what with the finishing up a visit with family, driving, doing yard work, catching up on laundry, having sinus congestion, etc... I've shaved every day since July of 2020, including days when my wife was in the hospital after giving birth, so breaking that streak would be relatively significant! But timing was on my side. By the time I finished yard work and was going to take a shower, the kid was taking a nap. I seized the moment and had a great shave. Personna Platinum Chrome (Israeli Red, German Blue, whatever you call them (the ones I have are German)) are great blades for me.

Damn straight! First impressions matter and you don't want to lead the little offspring to believe daddy is a hobo 🧐

  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Karve CB SB D
  • Blade: Gillette 7oclock Green
  • Lather: Barrister And Mann - Adagi - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister And Mann - Adagi - Aftershave

Great shave. Rare to get this much to knock down but it was still very easy. Oddly enough I was paying close attention to my adams apple but managed to cut it anyway.
