New Things Again

An aluminium open comb Karve Christopher Bradley with a box of Via Barberia 3 Herbae shave soap on the original packaging Karve box between a Zenith B21 brush and a bottle of Speick Men splash

  • Prep: Klar Activated charcoal facial soap
  • Razor: Karve Christopher Bradley aluminium, E plate
  • Blade: Big Ben Super Stainless
  • Lather: Via Barberia 3 Herbae
  • Aftershave: Speick Men Active After Shave Lotion
  • Fragrance: Creed Wind Flowers

In this episode of @Semaj3000@wetshaving.social generosity, I'm using his Aluminium Karve Christopher Bradley with an open comb E plate, and a Semaj3000-provided Big Ben blade and this new-to-me Via Barberia 3 Herbae shaving soap.

The Karve left a good first impression: the distinct blade feel makes finding the right angle very intuitive.

  • Brush: SBS handle with 28mm Boti Knight synthetic
  • Razor: Yates 921-EH
  • Blade: Wizamet
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Voices
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Voices

The Yates EH plate is smoother than I remembered, perhaps the Wizamet is a particularly good match for the razor or my lather was just on point. Tusk remains a top tier soap base for me, and Voices is just wonderful every time I use it.

  • Brush: Zenith r/wetshaving Moar Boar
  • Razor: Blackland Sabre
  • Blade: GEM (1)
  • Lather: Talent Soap Factory - The Abyss - Shaving Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Atomic Holiday - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Pink MahogHany - Gent
  • Passes: WTG, XTG
  • Coffee: Full City Roast Blend
  • Music: Deer Tick - Emotional Contracts

New GEM blade—very smooth shave, but at least one weeper. Fresh GEMs be like that.

I should have pushed that previous blade to fifty.

Ok shave. This soap is not very good I would not buy it again. I do like the scent.

  • Lather: Proraso White Soap
  • Brush: AP Shave Co G5C 24mm
  • Razor: Gillette Slim Adjustable
  • Blade: RK Stainless (1)

The RK blade was very average to me in both sharpness and smoothness but overall it was a good shave.

  • Blade: Feather (1)
  • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - Unscented - Balm & Splash
  • Scuttle: - Georgetown Pottery - G20

Now that I’m back home from vacation, I’m back to trying my DEs again. I hadn’t shaved for a few days, and yet again the Slim Adjustable did a pretty good job with all that growth. I was getting irritation when I tried it on only one or two days growth, so it will be interesting to see how it goes later tonight or tomorrow.

Even with a few days of growth, that sounds very brave to be using a Slim on a 9.

I’m so used to the MMOC at this point that it feels only mildly aggressive at 9!

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

A very nice shave. I haven't used a Zingari Man soap in a bit over a month, but Heather's soaps, both Sego and Vegan are top tier for me. They perform exceptionally well but, more importantly, they impart their own character to the shave. I can get pretty much any soap to provide a close and comfortable shave. The feel of the Zingari Man lather (Sego in this case) has a unique and delicate silkiness that is a distinguishing feature for me. And that silkiness somehow continues post-shave. Thoroughly enjoyable. I'm a fan.

  • Brush: Dogclaration B9A
  • Razor: GEM 1912
  • Blade: GEM PTFE (37)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Fougere Gothique
  • Post Shave: Stirling - Varen
  • Fragrance: Stirling - Lightish Pink

I probably should have saved this potent combo for a day when I’m in the office and have a 40 minute drive to enjoy it by myself, and not a day where my wife walks into the bathroom and asks what stinks. Live and learn. We’re headed to Miami tomorrow morning for a short cruise so tonight is packing up my trusty Catie’s Bubbles sample tub of Barnegat Bay.

[–] merikus 1 points 1 year ago
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen Soap
  • Brush: Declaration Grooming - B14 “Nebula” Badger
  • Razor: Gillette - Slim Adjustable (5)
  • Blade: Feather (2)
  • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen Splash & Unscented Balm
  • Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery - G20

My wife hates Varen. But she’s out of town so I get to use it. It’s such a perfectly dank scent. I also love how it’s in Stirling’s Sheep base, that’s one of my all time favorite bases.

Less than 24 hours since my last shave and the 5 felt too mild. Going to try it even milder tomorrow, just because.
