Things to remember:

  1. Trump is pledging to round people up immediately.
  2. It takes time to process those people to send them to where you want to send them.
  3. It takes far more time to negotiate extradition treaties with every country from where people have come to the U.S. illegally.
  4. Some countries don't want them back.

There is only one way to deal with all of that: concentration camps. That's the only possible way to do what they want to do.

All the while instantly and completely removing all the taxes they pay into without benefit in the first place. We are so fucked that this slide into fascism isn’t even a surprise or ignorant of history. We know it’s happening, we are seeing it in real-time.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Of course, if you privatize every social program and close a bunch of government departments, those taxes are less necessary. If people starve in the street? Fuck them for not pulling themselves up by their bootstraps and being born rich.

The neolibs and neocons united in their zeal to funnel taxpayer dollars into private hands. They ONLY differ on whose hands.

Oh, but there are options. Stalin used gulags while Hitler used Zyklon B. You don’t necessarily have to torture undesirable people with just violence, cold and starvation. I’m sure Americans will figure something out. Oh wait, they already have! Remember Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo bay. Just copy, paste and call it a day.

Still waiting to see American presidents in Hague for these atrocities.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm talking about options based on what they actually say they are going to do. Obviously, a "final solution" is a possibility as well. They just haven't gone that far with their claims yet.

[–] chaosCruiser@futurology.today 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hate to break it to you, but what politicians say before elections and what they do afterwards are only vaguely associated, not actually correlated. Just because Trump said this and that doesn’t mean he’s actually going to follow through. I’m sure he’ll come up with more awful ways to abuse his power. Just give him some time.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I'm not suggesting it won't happen. I'm just saying what they have said will happen is horrific enough as it is.

Trump is fine with concentration camps. Who is going to staff them? If he forces the National Guard to do it, the people in the National Guard arn't going to be too happy, it's not fun work.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There is no shortage of cops who would happily take a change of jobs in order to beat brown people and maybe also rape them.

Do you enjoy torturing and murdering people, but never had to courage to actually fulfill your dreams because they aren’t entirely aligned with local legislation? This is an opportunity for you. Border patrol.

I think you have to take your citizens back. Eg Venezuela has to take back their Venezuelan citizens.

But yes there's going to be a huge problem proving or accepting they are Venezuelan. I don't know how much paperwork they brought with them.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Extradition treaties have to be negotiated. You can't just stick 50,000 people on a bunch of airplanes to Caracas and drop them off.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Extradition is if you commit a crime and flee to a different country, the first country can demand the second country send them back to stand trial. Sorry you have your terms mixed up. But anyways, don't think you can turn back your own citizens. That's kinda the whole point of citizenship.

[–] Deello@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe not at this scale, but Republicans have already been bussing and flying people for a while now. Martha's Vineyard ring any bells. This isn't extradition, it's deportation. They just just want these people out of their hometowns.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Flying people internally and sending them to another country are very different things.

They've already started construction on the camps.

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not that quiet. He was telling everyone he was going to do this.

Not quiet at all. Miller tweeted openly about it.

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

As though no one has ever considered the cost to our deficit and impact to our economy that doing this will have. Between this and the tariffs, it would be funny how fast Trump is going to drive the country into the ground, if it weren't so devastatingly sad.

[–] leds@feddit.dk 5 points 1 week ago

Oh they have considered the costs, he is going to use them for slave labour , work camps.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Wait are we deporting them or detaining them? Those are different

[–] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Well you detain them before you deport them, then while you are processing them you have them all concentrated....in a camp

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

You detain them to fill your for profit jails and you kick the rest out... Simple

[–] Walk_blesseD@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Simple, right up until you actually try to enact such a scheme, at which point its logistical infeasibility drives you to liquidating large subsets of the population instead.

It's called the final solution because it wasn't exactly plan A.
