Here’s my 100 most listened to albums on last.fm for reference of what my taste is like, don’t let that stop you from recommending me things you think I won’t like though I’m trying to expand my horizons.

I also like listening to small artists, I write a series of artist features all about people less than a million Spotify listeners so if you have any recommendations for that lmk.

Sound and Fury - Sturgill Simpson

If you're into rap hybridizations, Rage Against the Machine's self titled album is one of my favourite's

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Can't see the list but basing this on the comments - I have been enjoying the new Hard Quartet album and think you might like. Rock and roll, more or less.

Janelle Monae, any of the first 3 albums in particular, but all of hers flow well.

Run the Jewels, if they aren't already in your list. Second album, but again, any.

Absolutely love the new Fontaines DC album.

Upvote for RL Burnside. I'll also suggest his 'i wish I was in heaven sitting down' a very smooth colab between an old Delta bluesman and a DJ

Here's something unique. The album "Acheron" by Mechina.

I don't think it's in your regular taste. But it's unique enough to be a suggestion.

Mechanical Keyboard Sounds: Recordings of Bespoke and Customized Mechanical Keyboards

Edit: This is less music, and more relaxation sounds. But I really like it.

over the garden wall soundtrack spotted

I don't know most of those so I can't really get a grasp on your tastes but I'll throw a few albums I really like into the ring anyways!

Ruin - The Amazing Devil The Search - NF Everything is Wrong - Lincoln Needle and Thread - Roland Faunte Starbound Orchestral - Curtis Schweitzer Smile! :D - Porter Robinson Dark Matter - Les Friction

I tried to pick some stuff that was really all over the place, hopefully something in there speaks to you

violent femmes - hallowed ground

I haven't heard most of those artists but some of the albums art reminds me of MC Lars

[–] No1ButtMe@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

The Replacements - Let it Be Morphine Cure For Pain

[–] snake@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

You might have a crush on Logic :)

[–] bpt11@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Shhh don’t tell him

(I’m only just a little embarrassed with how prevalent he is)

[–] Amaterasu@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

And Kendrick Lamar

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago

You'd probably like Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys. You may also wanna try Nujabe's Modal Soul.

Generation Why by Zhu. I don't really care for most of Zhu's music, but this album I really enjoy. It's similar in style to 808s and heartbreak.

Since you are trying to expand your horizons here's a bunch of weird stuff I like:

  • Paper Kites - Woodland
  • Hawaii Part II
  • Jack Stauber - HiLo
  • Marxist Love Disco Ensemble - MLDE
  • Twin Resurrection - Volume 1
  • Windows 96 - Reflections (tbh any album by Win96 is great)
  • Chikoi The Maid - Leaving Reality
  • Ginger Root - Shinbangumi
  • PilotRedSun - Achievement
  • Date of Birth - Planet Dob
  • Akiko Yano - Tadaima

Based on your most listened, maybe try Little Simz, clipping, Fantasic Negrito (Album: Last Days of Oakland)

For something maybe a little outside the box I recommend The Books, Gramatik, Pretty Lights, Cosmo Sheldrake

I'd recommend this album, or if you don't have time for the whole thing, this specific song on it.

Album: Maximum Love - Jupiter

Song: Dangerous Love

Laurie Anderson - Strange Angels

Somewhere in the In-between by Streetlight Manifesto

I've been slowly digging into their discography recently and holy crap Ska is so funny because it'll be a bopping tune but then you catch the lyrics and find it's a song about war, death, collapse, etc.

This music video definitely embodies that same disconnect. Cute animal animation with bopping music except wait what are those people doing? What are those animals doing? Oh my is that how this ends?!

[–] TeryVeneno@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

Phantomime - Mori Calliope

Literally anything by Nappy Roots.

The Game is underrated IMO.

Chiddy Bang β€” Opposite of Adults

I really like Mark Battles. β€œReal Ones, β€œNumbers2” and β€œHow” are solid tracks.

β€œNina” by Rhapsody is a great track.

[–] camr_on@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I see a lot of my favorites in that list. Some of my top albums I don't see:

  • Negro Swan and Cupid Deluxe by blood orange
  • IV by badbadnotgood
  • injury reserve by injury reserve
  • Don't You by Wet (pretty significant vibe shift from the others, maybe you'll like it)
[–] skeptomatic@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

A Tribe Called Quest - Beats, Rhymes, & Life

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I might have missed it but I don’t see the Under Pressure album for Logic. Might to get your listens up on that one
